Brilliantly positioned in the great city of Bogota. The rooms are colourful and fun and the roof top terrace is a real treat. Staff are informative and friendly. Take their advice about night time activities. Great breakfast and great layout. We got picked up from the airport as well which the hotel arranged. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

This hotel is a very cool place. We had a room with a small balcony and a wonderful view of the Candelaria area. Conveniently located, close to pretty much everything a tourist wants to see in this city.

I truly believe Casa Deco is THE place to stay in Bogotá if you want to get to know the city.

I'll be totally honest: when we booked this hotel, I had a lot of concerns regarding safety due to some reviews I'd read in Trip Advisor and the sadly earned reputation Bogotá has become famous for.

We went for it anyway, despite some reviews that suggested one should stay at the pink zone (where you can find shopping centers, international stores, fancy restaurants and the well known Colombian restaurant Andrés Carne de Res). Before making this decision -and you should really consider this opinion- we asked someone who's gone to Bogotá several times and whose father lives there. He told us La Candelaria was THE place to stay if you're in Bogotá, and that we shouldn't waste our money in hotels at the pink zone, which not only would be more expensive, but would be far from the downtown places we'd want to visit. And -he made sure we got him right- we were told NEVER to get a random cab and only to use the ones that are called "taxi seguro" (safe taxi). This means that if you stay in La Candelaria, you won't be needing a lot of cabs (you can walk everywhere during the day!) but if you're staying at the pink zone, you'll need one every day just to get downtown. And the traffic in Bogotá is horrible!

He also said La Candelaria was a safe neighbourhood considering it was the downtown area of a big city. Sure, if you talk carelessly on your cell phone while walking on the street, you'll get robbed, and you shouldn't wander into dark lonely streets at night. But when visiting a new town... why on earth would you take such risks?

That being said, we listened to him and went for Casa Deco... and we loved every minute of it!
The hotel is gorgeous, the decoration is beautiful and the rooms are just AMAZING. You won't believe it once you're there.

The staff is extremely nice and attentive. We asked for someone to pick us up at the airport the day we arrived, and nobody showed up because the driver had a car accident (told you the traffic was terrible!). We arrived in one of those safe taxies, and they apologized profusely and gave us a ride to the airport for free the day we left. So we're talking about this kind of service: aiming for the best and always trying to make you feel at home and comfortable. They also gave us a downtown map, and all the advice we asked for.

Don't be freaked out by the armed guards. Truth is, you'll find them almost everywhere in Bogotá: ouside hotels, some stores, even universities. If there's a guard, it's probably because you're in the right neighbourhood.

I wouldn't suggest being out too late at night (after 2 or 3 am) but you can walk to the restaurants nearby, which are great. If you want to have dinner at the pink zone, just ask, and the hotel staff will arrange the transportation for you. They REALLY take care of you.

If you enjoy walking to discover the cities you visit and staying downtown at the historical neighbourhoods, this is the place for you! Trust me, you won't regret it.

if you think Candalaria will be charming bohemian think again. This is scruffy, poor, down at heel downtown Bogota which is covered in graffiti and is dangerous at night time. The hotel tries its best in a horrible neighbourhood. They have a security guard outside the locked entrance and the staff are very security aware. The rooms are spacious and immaculately clean with fresh flowers. The shower is an ineffective trickle and has intermittant hot water.Breakfast is delicious and plentiful and tea and coffee are available in the foyer free all day. Its really more like a very nice hostel for young people or backpackers. What we saved on the room rate we spent on taxis going to the North of Bogota to zones T and G to find decent restaurants and feel safe. Good wifi free in all areas. We didnt sleep very well as its very noisy from about 6.30am onwards.

And the staff is super helpful. I tried to stay under $100/night during my trip to Colombia, but the extra $8 I paid for my single room was well worth it. Comfortable bed, hot water, strong wi-fi and great location. My only complaint is the thin walls... I could hear the staff breaking down the restaurant late at night and I was on the 2nd floor. But overall a class act hotel.

Room Tip: Try to get one of the higher floor rooms to avoid the noise.
