I'm living in Bogotá and my parents came to visit me. I contacted some friends and was recommended this hotel. It was absolutely perfect for my parents and they loved their stay here. Great service (English speaking, which is lucky since my parents speak no Spanish), beautiful design and great rooms. I took my parents around Colombia and when we came back to Bogotá it was clear that, in coming back to the hotel, they felt at home, and it's all thanks to the general warmth of the hotel. I think they were surprised to find themselves staying in such a modern, beautiful hotel in the heart of Bogotá!

Strongly recommended.

safe, clean and fun neighborhood easily walked. Good service, nice breakfast and fast internet included. Highly recommend! If full, try the BH Parque 93 which is new and also in a great neighborhood

Bh El Retiro is in a beautiful area with a large and fancy shopping mall a very short walk away. The restaurant in the hotel only served breakfast, but lots of nearby options meant finding food was easy. The lobby opens up to a large public green park the size of a city block. The room was beautiful with hardwood floors and a very comfortable bed with plenty of pillows. Our view was that of another park area and other apartment buildings and the surrounding hillsides. The bathroom was very modern with designer fixtures and was stocked with shampoos, soaps, and plenty of towels. My impression of the place was it was fresh, clean, and airy and I slept great.

When checking in, we had no difficulty with our extremely limited Spanish. The staff spoke varying levels of English, but we were always understood and vice-versa. The staff was flexible with our early check-in and eager to assist with our questions. We were even allowed into the breakfast room 10 mins before opening to grab a bite before we left for our flight out.

Our suggestions for improvements would be the following: Offering free internet. bh El Retiro had wireless internet, but there was a charge for use. There was a charge for breakfast which we had thought to be included in the room price. The minibar prices could be more reasonable. A bottle of water worked out to be about $5.50 US Dollars (we opted for the tap).

If you do choose this hotel make sure you have the name and address written down as the taxi drivers weren't familiar with this newer hotel!

The bh group's El Retiro hotel in Bogota is a gem located in the safest, chicest & most desirable part of the city (the Zona T / Zona Rosa) for those interested in walking-distance access to great restaurants, the best shopping, a variety of nightlife options and easy access to other parts of the city. Situated on the corner of a quaint neighborhood park, bh el Retiro manages to be modern, sleek, trendy and stylish yet unpretentious. Staff was the epitome of professional and beyond helpful with all our inquiries. I generally seek out accommodations in a slightly lower price range but the extra money spent here was well worth it (and much cheaper than comparable accommodations in the USA). The hotel also seems to be gay-tolerant (staff showed zero inquietude toward my boyfriend and I staying in a room with one bed).

I stayed at this hotel October 8th - 12th, 2009. This hotel is worth every penny. The rooms are very well decorated with modern designs and fixtures. The room I stayed in, 501,was surprisingly large with lots of windows and 2 queen sized beds. The bathroom was terrific, all granite and with modern stylish features. There was also plenty of closet space and huge drawers to place your clothes, and a nice sized fridge to store your own water and drinks. Breakfast is served on a daily basis and it's very good with made to order omelets, cereal, fruit, juices, toast, scones, etc. that cost roughly U.S. $7 per person. There is a business center and 1 computer where you can use the internet for free. You can also pay for the wireless services, which is by the hour. I paid $108/night for 2 queen sized beds and this was much less than other hotels I looked at that had 2 double sized beds. Also, this hotel is a very short walking distance to two major malls and an area filled with restaurants and pubs. There are also ATM's very close, one Colombian Bank a block away, and Citibank roughly 4 blocks away. The liquor store is also 1 block away, and sells just about everything, including sugar-free Red Bull (Red Bull sin sucre in Spanish, or Red Bull Lite). However, if you're a Red Bull drinker, bring some, it's not cheap like everything else in Colombia, and very expensive in the clubs. If this is your first time, don't be worried about the security. I felt incredibly safe, but did stay to the main tourist areas. You also don't need to be alarmed by the ever present machine gun wearing security police on just about every major corner, and also at major clubs. A metal detector check is like an ID check in America, so don't be alarmed. This hotel is roughly 1/2 hour from the airport, so plan accordingly. You can also book a van to take you to the airport, assuming you're on the 8 or 9 am flight out of Bogota. Be sure to check out the night before because it seems to take them a long time to check you out. ONE KEY WORD OF ADVICE - SHOW UP 3 HOURS BEFORE YOUR DEPARTURE FLIGHT! When they told me this, I sort of scoffed at the idea, but let me tell you, it really does take that long in Bogota. You go through literally 6 security check points, it's completely insane, and all flights seem to depart within an hour of each other. Also, don't be fooled by thinking that once you make it to Duty Free you won't have any more security checks. You have at least 2 more, and they take a long time. You can't consider yourself truly safe until you get to the last queue at the actual gate, where they check your backs yet again, for the millionth time. Plus, don't spend all your money, you need to pay a 20,000 peso exit tax when you check in. They will accept credit cards if you don't have the cash.

The location is good, close to three shopping centers (medium to expensive shops). The area is rather upscale so it was perfectly safe to go out in the evening (it became dark early).

The hotel is new, so everything is modern and well-functioning. Room and bathroom are clean. Nice linen in the bed. Modern TV with CNN (English) etc. Tea and coffee maker in room.

No room service or restaurant. There is a bar for drinks though.

Breakfast is okay. The selection for hot breakfast is quite limited (on Saturday there was only only French toast, whereas on weekdays also pancakes and eggs were available). Very good fruit at breakfast. Choice of bread very limited.

This more or less a business hotel, with perhaps ca 60 rooms (it could be called a boutique hotel).

What I did not like is the poor isolation to the corridors. As the hotel staircase was open to the corridor, so all sounds from all floors could be heard in the room. This being a business hotel, there wasn't usually noise, but at some points voices and sounds from the corridors were disturbing.

But anyway, all in all the hotel is very good.

I stayed for two nights. The hotel is at a great location, near many restaurants and shopping malls. It is new and relatively small, which is nice. The rooms are nicely furbished in a clean style. The El Retiro neighborhood is nice and the hotel is quiet and you can walk to nice restaurants and shopping malls after you return from work. They offer free wifi Internet at the lobby but you need to pay to use it in the room. There is a breakfast buffet with an attentive service.
