We had to walk up a steep flight of stairs to reach reception where our passports were demanded by the man at reception. When we filled out the neccesary paperwork we asked for them back and was told he would return them to us in our in 5 minutes. After waiting for a while we went back to reception to finf no one about, so we went for walk. Imagine our horror when we saw the security guard from the hotel casually chatting to someone in the street whilst juggling our passports. After a bit of discussion we worked out that was on his way to get them copied and, yes we did eventually get them back. The hotel itself was basic and reasonably clean. The breakfast at the restaurant below (Benais) was good. You can walk to the Witches market from here and there is plenty of nice places to eat around. Make sure you vist the San Francisco Cathedral and climb up to the bell tower with its fascinating array of hide ropes. I think the area was safe but be careful crossing the busy roads. Check out the Zebras and Donkeys on traffic control.

The hotel is nice and located perfectly next to Sagarnaga and Illampu. The breakfast of the restaurant banais is very nice even though the service is slow... The waiters are very kind. The man at the reception gives a really bad service though, first he is not friendly, he does not care about his guest. For exemple he was angry on us because we didnt book tours through him, of course if he doesnt even have something written by a TO of the salar. He wouldnt tell us a whole day that they changed the password of the wifi and so on. Unfortunately all other people working there would be friendly, bit he is always there.... So that sucks.

Had 6 nights booked, stayed just 1 night. The room was above the resturant and very noisy.Resturnats opens at 7 am and closes after 10 pm and is open to the public so they woudl not care if they made a lot of noise. When I asked the front desk staff to move us they just said no room is ok. There was also massive renovations underway when I sayted (March 2012).The rooms do have potential and they had been in a quite hostal would have rated highly. The front desk stafff are quite rude and really dont care. There are so many place to stay in La Paz in the same area as this hostal that you woudl be wise to look around and not stay here just because of the relatively high Tripadvisor rating

I stayed at Naira hostal for 1 night and then moved to a proper hotel (which happened to be amazing). The hostel is very simple and not very clean. I think it needs to be renovated. The staff though is very nice and helpful. It is right next to the witches' market and San Francisco Cahedral. But I personally don't like this area: its is dirty, very noisy and not very safe.
Banais cafe is just downstairs and I liked this cafe a lot! But I guess you can not expect the hotel to be great if you pay this little. Just don't made my mistake and don't believe reviews if you used to stay in more or less good hotels. Otherwise you got what you paid for.

Located right across from Iglesias San Francisco and half a block from Mirascal Santa Cruz the hostal is at the edge of the tourist area and an easy walk to many restaurants. Lots of hot water, we had our laundry done and returned the same day and received all kinds of good advice about where to exchange our currency and where to go for a haircut. An absolutely terrific restaurant downstairs. Eggs, pancakes, cereal, yogurt and juices for breakfast, excellent range of choices for lunch and dinner as well a good selection of desserts. Our room was large, it was around the inner courtyard away from the restaurant area, and our beds were comfortable. Great value, we would certainly stay here again.

This was a tremendous place to stay in La Paz - close to everything and very comfortable. Th only draw back was the demolition of concrete walls going on from 7am until 11pm. We didn't have a problem the first two days of our stay but the last two were just unnerving and we were glad to leave. Rooms were terrific, staff were terrific, great restaurant and breakfasts - just check that they have finished their renovations when you make a booking.

Booked by a colleague, we arrived very early having flown in from london via Miami. Taxi couldn't get us to the door as the road outside was being relaid and walking up the hill pulling a case the altitude hit hard. However the staff were very helpful and the room I had at the front of the hotel both comfortable and the shower very welcome. Breakfast buffet simple but fresh, plentiful and coffee good (use plenty of hot water to dilute!) Location is central and taxis plentiful. Hotel restaurant serves reasonable food and is moderately priced. We also visited La Casona below the hotel on Av. Mariscal, turn right from front door down hill, right on main road and restaurant is on right a little way down, excellent food and wine selection. We stayed again later on our trip and found the service and standards consistent.

Room Tip: The inner rooms are quieter than those overlooking the street but the shutters reduce any noise and...
