This place is all about delicious comfort food. My boyfriend and I split the fish and chips and the shepard's pie and two non alcoholic drinks. First of all you need to keep in mind it is a pub, it's a bit loud, and the food is not fine dining. However, all of the food was phenomenal. Fish was great, moist, tender with a crisp exterior. Fries were average, but good for Bolivian standard. The Shepard's pie although perhaps a tad bit runny was the best I have ever had and a gigantic portion (literally enough for two people). A bit expensive for Bolivian standards (our bill came to 129 bolivianos), but worth every dollar. The only negative was the pub smells a bit like smoke..coming from canada and having asthma this was a bit of a shock to me, however I survived and boy am I glad I stayed! YUM!

Please keep in mind it is the pub UPSTAIRS, not the restaurant downstairs..they are different!

If like me you have traveled around South America for ages (18 months and counting), you will certainly miss English food if you are from Old Blighty. I tried various dishes, including Shepherd's Pie and Chicken Pie, and they were absolutely perfect. A little expensive but oh so worth it - value for money definitely. Good staff, central location, decent Western music, typical pub layout, and sports on the TV. It is the pub upstairs, not the restaurant downstairs, do not confuse the two. Enjoy!

To The Most Estimable TripAdvisor Community:

Following a year's sojourn throughout the entirety of South America, and having been subjugated to a spartan diet consisting primarily of potatoes, rice, and the occasional fried plantain, we were, as born-and-bred natives of the United Kingdom, ecstatic to discover the existence of an English-owned pub and restaurant in La Paz, the proprietor himself hailing from the stony shores of the British Isles.

Upon our arrival, after having traveled hundreds of kilometers from the desolate promontories of Lake Titicaca, we arrived at The English Pub, and quite literally could not contain our excitement once having seen The Pub's exterior placards advertising full, proper English breakfasts, replete with Lincolnshire sausages and PG tips - naturally, a staple of any true English morning diet - and decided that we had, at once, encountered our Britannic home-away-from-home so high in the deepest reaches of the Latin American Andes.

Thus, after brief street-side consult, we resolved to procure midday alimentation from the aforementioned establishment.

That said, we were in no way disappointed by the consummate experience at said English Pub. The food itself was beyond reproach, and the very affable proprietor, Max, hailing from Depford, in South London, of course, contributed to our overall dining experience as much as the food itself. Being himself averse to the laborious concoction of bloody mary's (sic?), he made them both extra strong, and also excessively spicy, which we surmised may have been done as a repellent to the order of further tomato-based cocktails.

Overall, and in summation, our experience in The English Pub was supremely rewarding, and incontrovertibly the penultimate closure to our brief "voyage" (as the French say, de coeur), to the Plurinanational Republic of Bolivia.

With Warmest Regards,

I remain now and forever, your satisfied customer,

Mike B.

We came here twice while we were in La Paz as it was just down from our hotel. My husband had been taken down by a fairly horrible flu towards the end of our time in Peru, and was just on the mend when we got to La Paz. He hadn't really eaten properly in days and was looking for simple reliable pub grub to ease him through.

The food here is great. Big portions, exactly what you would expect from a pub meal. The drinks are good too, reasonable priced and included a nice range of juices as well as alcohol. They play a good range of sport during the day.

Our only problem was the smoking. Being from Australia where you certainly can't smoke at the table in an enclosed room while eating your meal, and here every second customer was smoking poorly filtered cigarettes. As it was winter, the place was mostly shut up, and the result was fairly toxic. Both times we ate our meal near a window after opening it, but didn't linger into the afternoon as the smoking really got to both of us very quickly. So if you aren't used to eating and drinking in a smoking environment, this place may not be for you during the busy periods.

Hi Case0111

Thank you for your feed back and I am really sorry if smoke got to much for you when you were here, it is a problem when we try to cater for everyone.
We do have two extractor fans working all the time along with trying to keep the windows open, weather permitting, but I will definitely look into other options to improve on this for the future.

Thanks again an I hope you enjoy the rest of your travels
