A well kept secret in La Paz is they have a zoo. It's in a suburb of La Paz called Mallasa. The same suburb where you will find Valle de la Luna. To get to the Zoo, go to San Francisco Plaza and look for a micro bus with Mallasa printed on the window. They come by during the day every 5 minutes or so. 2.5 bs per person. Take the bus right to the end, and you are at the zoo.
The big lagoon in the front part of the zoo is only a place for migrating birds to stop so if you don't see any ducks in the water just move on. There are also large carp but the water is dirty so if the person isn't feeding them, you probably won't see them.
The zoo has mostly domestic animals at it monkeys, birds, llama, alpaca, jaguar, puma, snakes, bears and a few I'd never heard of. It's about 1-1.5 hours to see everything, so it's the perfect compliment to Valle de la Luna (another 1 hour stop) 10 minute walk up the road.
It was 5 bs to go in (less then $1)
