This was easily one of the best tours we did in South America. The people at Deep Rainforest were fantastic. Raul and his son (in the office in La Paz) were friendly, honest and extremely helpful. The trip delivered all that they promised and more.
We began by meeting out fearless guide Ruben and building our raft. We stocked up on supplies and set off just after lunch. Peacefully gliding down the river, we stopping to cook and go on walks in the jungle along the way. We thought it may get boring at times, and so brought mp3 players and books, but never actually used them. Time flies by when just enjoying the beautiful scenery, swimming next to the raft, searching for wildlife or helping Ruben out with the paddling.
The best thing about choosing this trip is how quiet the raft is. No engine to scare off the wildlife. Along the way we saw a jaguar, many Capybaras, monkeys, a herd of wild pigs. They were crossing the river so we got within a few feet of them. Two babies were swept downstream and so we went after them. We took them with us on our raft until we handed them to some park rangers, who promised they would bring them up and re-release them! (check out the photo of Ruben holding them)
Finally, the guide (Ruben) deserves a special mention. A good guide makes all the difference on any tour. And Ruben was the best! He seemed to be enjoying himself all the way. Always with a big grin on his face, whooping when we hit rapids, climbing trees to get us fruit or collecting wood to make us a fire in the evening. Its nice to be with someone who clearly loves his job, and really wants you to enjoy your trip into the jungle with him.
