This was awesome and a very rewarding experience! But let me tell ya 46Km on a bike over a bumpy rocky road will make your butt hurt for days. By the end I wanted to cry, but I was happy I did it. Free beer at the end and a t-shirt if you go with gravity! They are the best, safest company.

“Do it! ”
Reviewed August 15, 2014 via mobile

Great fun! Not as dangerous as all the stories you hear. Your safety is in your hands, take it at your own pace and any beginner - intermediate rider could complete it safely. We went with altitude biking it was the same price as the other companies. The leaders were fun, informative and caring.

“Fantastic Day with Vertigo”
Reviewed August 15, 2014

The road is absolultely fantastic! 100% worth doing it. Listen to your tour guide(s) and ride with common sense. Remember, you came here to enjoy the ride and the scenery around you. This is not a race.

“PRO DOWNHILL”
Reviewed August 12, 2014

PROS:
- Bikes were well-maintained
- 3 guides for 14 people - 1 always stayed at the end for the slower ones, which was reassuring and helpful when running into traffic -- guides were overall very nice and spoke English.
- 2 support vehicles followed us along the way and gave us snacks and drinks when we were tired

CONS
- The team arrived 1h30 LATE, after insisting and insisting that we be ready at 8 on the dot the evening before when we passed by the agency to pay and try on material for sizes.
- Their delay meant that at the end of the day we only had about 15minutes to shower, swallow some food, and forget about the pool! (since some people had to catch buses)
- Despite trying on the material the night before, everybody in the group did not have the correct size gear.
- Pictures were not very good at all...

When we returned to the office, we very diplomatically argued for some sort of compensation (for having spent 1h30 on the sidewalk waiting), which Jessica refused, because: the "main boss" was not there, and she had agreed the day before to pay for our entrance fees to the park (25 Bls each), and reimbursed 1 of the girls that did not make it at the last minute because of altitude sickness.
We thanked her for both of those initiaves, but they were independant of the main issue and had been decided before the 1h30 delay.

Overall, we paid 450 Bls - it was worth it as the ride is incredible. But you must be aware that the Yungas Road (aka Death Road) is something you decide to do at your own responsibility! Bolivia is poorly equipped for emergency situations and the road is dangerous. If you feel up to it, go at your own speed, and at your own risk.

ENJOY!

“Insane, but choose tour company wisely!”
Reviewed August 11, 2014

The road is incredible and 100% worth doing. It is as dangerous as you make it, the only people to fall off their bikes were those who were trying to race each other- there is no pressure to go quickly at all from the group leaders.. The views are incredible!!So i did the ride with ´altitude´, and although the are great and everything is well organised, provided lunch, tshirts and photos, the group we were in was huge (almost 30 riders). this meant the pace was slow, you always had people around you and it took something away from the experience. I would recmmmend asking around for a company that does smaller groups.
Also they say ´Dont bring cameras because we will take photos´,- they use a tiny crappy digital camera and so all the photos of our trip are useless. Would definately recommend using a gopro mounted on the helmet or chest if you have one- footage was unreal!
