We went to this museum expecting to see more pictures of Jesus and a church. The price of admission includes a private tour guide (meaning, we walked in and were immediately assigned an English-speaking tour guide), and this tour was excellent! We learned much about Bolivian history, heard many interesting tales, and, of course, saw lots of religious paintings. There are also interesting things from and about the revolutions in Bolivia. The tour takes you up to the roof of the church, and the view of La Paz is amazing. You also see the church, of course, and it is beautiful. There seemed to be more people praying than sight seeing in the church proper, so we didn't really spend much time there. The tour was never boring. I highly recommend this!

Peaceful, interesting history, crypt closed the afternoon we were there but our tickets were good for a return visit.

This is one of the communal hubs in La Paz. You can go to church, take in a puppet show, catch a bus, or try some street food. Just up the street is textile shopping, the witches market, and lots of restaurants.

San Francisco has small cedar altars decorated with gold leaf designs. Candles are not used in churches here because of fire.

Initially I wasn't planning on visiting the Cathedral, but then stumbled upon it as I was looking for the Witches Market. Once inside they provided a guide who spoke English. Usually, I prefer to self-tour, but I was pleasantly surprised by the information I learned about La Paz and it's history. The views from the bell tower are spectacular and the crypt (although a bit creepy) tells the stories of the many war heroes of Bolivia. Costs a few bucks to get in, but I say it's well worth it!
