The Rosario is really the best place we've stayed in Bolivia. As soon as you arrive, you feel like a special guest. The people working there are all very friendly and helpfull, especially at the restaurant. Our room was the 430, very calm and lové l'y decorated with aymara handcrafts. The breakfast is also the best Noé we've had in Bolivia and Argentinia. Do not hesitate to book there.

Room Tip: For calm, ask a room not giving on Ilampu street

Well located to experience the markets and museums. A very nice resturant with prices that Americans will love. Try a Bolivan wine, we've had three variations on red blends, each enjoyable (though the Napa Valley has nothing to fear). Very friendly and helpful staff. Old Colonial building being methodically upgraded. I send this message from the beautiful lobby area as we wait for a cab to the airport (a half hour, less than $10).

Room Tip: 205 was very nice. Assume 305 the same.

Stayed here for a night sometime towards the end of June 2012, and loved it. In terms of comfort, this was a significant step up from the US$8-12 per person per night places we had hitherto been staying in on our Ecuador-Peru-Bolivia trip (although, to be fair, we did find some very good places within that price range). Spacious and heated rooms, beds that lull you to sleep within minutes, eminently reliable hot water, plus a good breakfast buffet from their restaurant (outside of breakfast, try their mint sorbet) - and all for a thoroughly reasonable price, in fact not much more than what you have to pay for a hostel bed in the more expensive European cities. The best thing about this place, though, has got to be the service. The staff are unfailingly friendly and helpful. For instance, when we asked at the front desk about buses to Santa Cruz, the doorman, hearing our queries, came over unasked to give us the information, telling us that he knew because he is from Santa Cruz. And when we arrived at 6.30am off an overnight bus from Uyuni, too early to check in, they told us we could use an unoccupied room to shower and rest in until our room was ready. This was very much appreciated because we had not showered for the last three days, having been on a 3D2N salt flats tour in Uyuni before boarding the overnight bus back to La Paz. And so we would unreservedly recommend Hotel Rosario.

Room Tip: Rooms on higher floors tend to give a very decent view of La Paz. Just ask them for a room with a vi...

If you are looking for value in a beautiful lodging located in a reasonable spot near the witches market of La Paz, Hotel Rosario is for you. The property is not far from the main square and taxi service to anywhere in the city for museums or other touring is inexpensive. This five-story, well-renovated colonial hotel is tastefully decorated with native art and populated with beautiful plants in strategic places. We stayed here five nights during January 2013. The rooms are very clean and are equipped with very modern cable television, a safe, and electric heater that you may want on a cold night. There are two lovely patio areas that you can enjoy in the hotel. Cold, bottle water and hot coca tea are always available in the lobby sitting area. Beautiful photo art books and other educational materials about life and culture in Bolivia are located in that same sitting area. The restaurant was excellent for buffet breakfast and evening meals. A small café and bank of three computers for public Internet access is located on the fifth floor (ground level is floor 0). But, there is no elevator in the hotel. A small native weaving arts and crafts gift store is located in the lobby, but the slightly larger store, with extended operating hours, is located next door. We enjoyed a very quiet, artfully decorated room toward the back of the property adjacent to the lower-level patio area. The only challenge we had was waiting a while for the water to warm up in order to bathe. The hotel uses solar power backed up with natural gas heating. The English-speaking hotel staff is friendly and very helpful. An independent travel agency with English-speaking employees is located in the lobby. Their charges are likely a bit higher than other vendors in the neighborhood, but we enjoyed a much-needed, very good private tour of the City and Valley of the Moon through them.

Room Tip: Rooms away from the street side will be quieter. There is no elevator in the hotel. Ground-level is...

English-speaking staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast buffet is quite good and allows you to order eggs in any style. Location is okay but restaurants nearby are so-so. Room is clean and colonial style hotel.

I stayed here 3 nights.
The rooms are clean.
Location is very good.
WiFi was very good all over the hotel.
Breakfast was the best that I've had during my travels in Bolivia and Argentina.
My room had a safe and an electric heater since La Paz gets cold at night.
The hotel has a travel agency at the lobby which you should ignore; they are way overpriced. They'll charge you multiples of what others will. If you walk around the same street "Illampu" you'll find others that are much more affordable.
Hotel has water and tea available downstairs at all times.
