“Overall just a really fabulous hotel.”
Reviewed September 11, 2012

We arrived in La Paz at 17:30 pm on a Friday after more than 10 hours of traveling from Machu Pichu . This was our first visit to Bolivia so I wasn't really sure what to expect.

First: The service was good. Second : The rooms are spacious and the furniture is clasic Third: One of the main attraction is the location!!!! There's a currency exchange house across the street.

Room Tip: nothing special

Big rooms, nice view over La Paz. Breakfast nice and with a great choice of food.
We had a smoking room with we preffer. There is a Pharmacie ( in ) next to the hotel, we found verry handy, because my wife had a problem with the hight. Service in the hotel is quick and good. We wanted to take a cab and they adviced us to walk instead, that was a verry good idea. We would recommend this hotel.

We stayed here for 3 nights and were initially impressed by the good location and the pleasent reception staff. The rooms do small of smoke and are dated but OK. Breakfast is not brilliant but passable.
However it all went wrong on Saturday. They run functions every Friday and Saturday night (according to reception staff) and the noise is unbearable. The base from the "music" reverberates throughout the hotel meaning that our bed vibrated. The "DJ" shouted so loud that I could here him clearly in our 7th floor room. At 1.30am we were moved to a room on the 13th floor where we could still here the noise but it was muted. We put up a do not disturb sign but the staff still thought it Ok to hoover the next door room at 8.15
On Sunday we asked to speak to a manager about experience but apparantly they do not have a manager working on a Sunday! The receptionist tried to resolve the issue by offering an upgrade for our remaining night but we did not want to be bothered with moving our luggage when there is not a function tonight. They also offered us a meal in the restaurant but we had not been impressed with the food (although the service was good) when we had eaten there and declined this.

I am sure that this hotel is OK when there is not a function on but they should consider that they are a hotel and not have loud noise until gone 2am.

This is supposedly a 5 star hotel but I would not say so. 4 star maybe as it is a little dated BUT I cannot fault the service or the rooms and generous buffet breakfast. Wide variety of cakes, pastries, breads and hot eggs, sausages plus cereals and yoghurt. They provide a welcome drink and I enjoyed a pisco sour at their bar. Furniture is dated but comfortable and rooms were warm and toasty!
Loved my huge bathroom with bath tub in it with awesome hot water pressure!
Internet use was great as there are 3 computers available.
Everything is walkable ESP the witch markets.
Excellent stay!

I was a bit cautious as I had read bad reviews on this hotel but I have been positively surprised. They let me in my room as early as 10am and responded swiftly to any of my requests. The hotel is perfectly located in the center of La Paz, which is handy for any sightseeing. There is a beautiful and tasty restaurant at the top overseeing the city and an indoor swimming-pool. It is clean and comfortable, although a bit old, maybe not worth the 5 star they claim but well worth a 4-star. I also appreciated that they serve a full buffet hot breakfast as early as 5am which is very convenient when going on a tour or on an early flight.

We stayed here with a group - the ability to accomodate a large group was a plus. The beds were comfortable and the rooms were clean. Noisy street, the place reeked of cigarette smoke - all the way to the 8th floor! It obviously is where all the locals go to party. Noisy most of the night. We were here twice in 2 weeks for a total of 4 nights. The buffet breakfast could be really good if the omelets didn't have a large amount of eggshell in them each time and the hardboiled eggs were actually cooked. The front desk was helpful and it does have an elevator - not a common occurance.

Room Tip: the higher, the better
