“Very good business hotel. Centrally located”
Reviewed January 21, 2013

Great business hotel, with the amenities and features I would expect from a business hotel. The concierge was unhelpful thought when it came time to make reservations but I figured that it was due to an understaffed front desk. The Duke Restaurant could use a redesign as it felt like I was having breakfast in a parish rectory. Otherwise thought the suite was great, and its central location was very convenient.

Not really sure what to say but here's the story...

Flew in from New York, landed in La Paz at 4:30am. Went through customs, took a 20 min cab and arrived at the hotel after traveling for 15 hours. We were greeted with unanswered knocks, and a security guard who told us that the hotel had been closed for more than a week and would be closed until Jan 15. Which is strange considering I confirmed only 3 days before. So we were stranded on a deserted street, in the middle of a strange city, with all luggage and no cabs. I'm not one who usually writes bad reviews (actually the opposite), but this hotel clearly needs to get their stuff in order... No apologies. No explanation.

Go to the Radisson a block away. Very helpful and much nicer in general...well as nice as a hotel can get in La Paz.

We were very warmly welcomed and offered us a glass of fresh passion fruit juice and some delicious chocolates. We were also upgraded to a luxurious and spacious suite. The staff was very helpful and courteous. We stayed at the hotel for 3 nights and had a wonderful experience. We had dinner at the hotel restaurant and the food was superb!

Room Tip: We loved our suite on a higher floor.

This is a very nice hotel that offers small suites for all guests, is comfortable has a big bedroom with two double beds and enough closet space, a safe and iron/board also a desk.
In the main area you have sitting room and dinnning and a small kitchennette with is very practical to boil water for your mate! You have calbel TV with a very large selection of channels local and intenational and very friendly staff. Breakfast are good served in buffet style.
They also offer free wifi and smoking /non smoking floors are very convinient.

La Paz is very high altitude so when you arrive you may get some headache and cold and general uneaseness and drinking a lot helps specially Mate de Coca, which helps with your circulation and breathing.
However when you get to your room, you find that drinking water is providded but a very high price 17 bolivianos for a 600ml bottle when you pay 5 for a 1.5 lts in the supermarket, and as you are feeling soo badly you don't even want to walk and have to take it at that high price, bottles are marked so you can't replace them with one bought outside. I really felt ripped off on that. I would prefer free water than free newspaper that is also provided (some days)

But apart from that, now that I bought my water, my stay is very pleasant!

Room Tip: Ask for a room in a Non smoking floor, those are the odd number floors, even numbers are smoking if...

We had 2 really nice nights at this hotel. Very big rooms and kitchens- separate bedroom. We had a great experience. However we had just finished backpacking around Las Pampas, so we were really dirty, and smelled like bug dope- and we didn't really fit in with the business crowd/upper society clients that I'm assuming this hotel mainly caters to.
Having said that the staff was awesome- I'm afraid we didn't get to try the free drinks, or breakfast as we left too early in the morning to indulge.
The continental breakfast really early in the morning did hit the spot though.
Lastly the Ritz itself is within walking distance of a mall (not great but it does have decent take out) and a fully stocked grocery store- great if you're up to using the kitchen.
Solid hotel, with great staff.

Room Tip: Great selection of hot water and teas at the front desk- you'll need the Coca tea to combat the...

We stayed at 5 different hotels during our trip to La Paz, and the Hotel Ritz was in the top 2! Booking was easy, I did it online and was surprised at the very reasonable rates. I was able to email the hotel and arrange an early pick up from the airport. A driver was waiting for us outside customers with a sign. We arrived on the 5:30 am flight from Miami and were able to check in immediately. We were shocked to find out our room had 2 bedrooms. The second room ended up being my staging room for my suit cases and clothes. I loved it! It also had a very nice living room and stocked mini bar. There were also bath robes which I loved. The bathroom was a nice size, pretty standard looking...it did the job. If I was going to nitpick: the dryer could only be used on the low setting and I wished for a coffee maker, instead of ordering room service. Breakfast is included and it was good. You must try the café con leche. We were junkies after the first sip. As for the location. It was great for us. We don’t mind taking cabs to sights. The Witches Market can be crazy and this hotel is in more of a residential location. It is La Paz, so you will never get away from the street noise and car honking, but a room at the top floor did wonders. Around the hotel you can walk to a Cafe Alexander, Saltena shops, Mongos (restaurant that gets hoping after 10pm) and Cafe Beirut. Also, the double decker tourist bus has a pick up across the street from the hotel. There are 2 restaurants in the hotel: Duke's and the cafe. Dukes was wonderful! I had some traditional Bolivian fare, lengua in picante. My family is Bolivian so I know it was good. The cafe....not so much. Think chicken tenders and microwave pizza. I would avoid it. The staff was wonderful, bilingual and very helpful. I would recommend this hotel to everyone.

Room Tip: Higher floors get you away from the street noise.

We decided to splurge a bit for the second half of our La Paz stay due to both of us getting sick. We decided on the Ritz due to the price at the time and its good reviews. The hotel in itself was ok. The rooms were nice and the beds were comfy. The service from the staff was great, they were very helpful and cheery.
The food on the other hand was average at best. We ended up getting room service a fair bit due to both of us getting quite sick, so we didnt have the energy to go out exploring, but for a 4 or 4 star hotel, I expect the food to be of standard. One exclusion was the breakfast which was served down in the restaurant, it was delicious! there was a massive range including omelets (that they cooked in front of you), fruit, breads, cakes, cold meats.

Another big positive was they will happily store your luggage if you need.
