“Lovely Hotel in the City”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 7, 2012

We stayed at 5 different hotels during our trip to La Paz, and the Hotel Ritz was in the top 2! Booking was easy, I did it online and was surprised at the very reasonable rates. I was able to email the hotel and arrange an early pick up from the airport. A driver was waiting for us outside customers with a sign. We arrived on the 5:30 am flight from Miami and were able to check in immediately. We were shocked to find out our room had 2 bedrooms. The second room ended up being my staging room for my suit cases and clothes. I loved it! It also had a very nice living room and stocked mini bar. There were also bath robes which I loved. The bathroom was a nice size, pretty standard looking...it did the job. If I was going to nitpick: the dryer could only be used on the low setting and I wished for a coffee maker, instead of ordering room service. Breakfast is included and it was good. You must try the café con leche. We were junkies after the first sip. As for the location. It was great for us. We don’t mind taking cabs to sights. The Witches Market can be crazy and this hotel is in more of a residential location. It is La Paz, so you will never get away from the street noise and car honking, but a room at the top floor did wonders. Around the hotel you can walk to a Cafe Alexander, Saltena shops, Mongos (restaurant that gets hoping after 10pm) and Cafe Beirut. Also, the double decker tourist bus has a pick up across the street from the hotel. There are 2 restaurants in the hotel: Duke's and the cafe. Dukes was wonderful! I had some traditional Bolivian fare, lengua in picante. My family is Bolivian so I know it was good. The cafe....not so much. Think chicken tenders and microwave pizza. I would avoid it. The staff was wonderful, bilingual and very helpful. I would recommend this hotel to everyone.

Room Tip: Higher floors get you away from the street noise.

We decided to splurge a bit for the second half of our La Paz stay due to both of us getting sick. We decided on the Ritz due to the price at the time and its good reviews. The hotel in itself was ok. The rooms were nice and the beds were comfy. The service from the staff was great, they were very helpful and cheery.
The food on the other hand was average at best. We ended up getting room service a fair bit due to both of us getting quite sick, so we didnt have the energy to go out exploring, but for a 4 or 4 star hotel, I expect the food to be of standard. One exclusion was the breakfast which was served down in the restaurant, it was delicious! there was a massive range including omelets (that they cooked in front of you), fruit, breads, cakes, cold meats.

Another big positive was they will happily store your luggage if you need.

Ritz Apart was disappointing. The rooms are ok if a little stuffy and dreary. Location is ok. But the rest is underwhelming especially given the price.

Service is average but the main issue is the included breakfast. It was bordering on inedible. It was so bad we went to the supermarket and bought our own food despite breakfast being included in the room rate.

Also wifi only worked if you stood in the doorway with the door open. And we were only on level 3.

After Ritz Apart we stayed at La Loge (above the restaurant La Comedie) which was cheaper and much better.

Love this hotel when I come here for business. The staff is so friendly and professional and it is so nice to stay in an apartment with a kitchenette, living rom and dining table, especially when here for a while. They recently made updates to their wifi internet and it works great. Good location too, just a two minute walk to the supermarket, or up the hill to lots of choices of restaurants.
No fitness centre or pool, but at high altitude, it's hard to workout anyways!

Room Tip: Rooms on higher floors are quieter, less street noise.

Have stayed in The Ritz many times - always found the staff friendly and accomodating. Typically arrive into La Paz early in the am off the AA flight from Miami and never had a problem with early check-in. The hotel isn't as modern or as well appointed as Casa Grande but is better situated in the City.

Room Tip: The night club can be loud - so avoid side close to Mongo's

I would strongly recommend you to stay at Ritz Apart Hotel. I stayed there last December with my extended family: 18 people of different ages and background and everybody loved this hotel. We would definetly go back for the following reasons:
-Spacious suites with great city views and nice decoration.
-Breakfast buffet included in the room rate:unbelivable variety of everything you can imagine and great staff service.
-Thoughtfulness: I have stayed in hotels at several countries and this is the first time I have seen that they set up a table near the front desk with pastries, coffe, juices and water for guests that have to leave the hotel early in the morning. They also gave us a courtesy welcome drink ticket at check in time.
-Excellent group rates.
-Centrally located: close to embassies, banks, touristic attractions, restaurants, etc
- Excellent bar and restaurant on their premises.
In conclusion, you cannot go wrong with this hotel.

If you need to be in La Paz for bussiness or pleassure, this is a good option. It is located in sopocachi, a nice neiborhood with plenty of good international restaurantes arround. It is also closer to the touristic spots in La Paz plus the city tour buses, depart from the Isabel La Catolica square just in front of the hotel. Rooms are big and comfortable and the food at the restaurant is quite acceptable.
