Review of Cafe Illampu

Cafe Illampu
Ranked #17 of 26 Coffee & Tea in La Paz
Price range: $3 - $6
Cuisines: Swiss
Description: In February 2012, was founded by a trained Swiss baker, confectioner and cook the CAFE Illampu in La Paz. It was named after the Cafe in Sorata after the 6356 m high mountain there with impressive twin peaks. It was opened in a historic house on the Calle Linares. Here was the beginning of the 20th century the residence of the Linares family, of which the ceiling painting still bears witness. Apart from the famous Cafe Munaipata there is food of predominantly organic farming without Pesticide and eutrophication. This concerns all the ingredients such as eggs, flour, yogurt, jams, honey and rabbit meat from our own attitude. The raclette is a special treat. Stefan and his staff endeavor to make your stay as pleasant as possible.

After three months of being traumatised by South American bread, the breakfast here almost made me weep with joy.
You get a selection of three thick slices of bread, one of which is Zopf (I know! Zopf! It's not as awesome as the one my Swiss boyfriend's gran makes but hey). The jam was mango and apple and it was delicious. Best of all was the coffee - freshly ground and nice crema on top (boyf had hot chocolate which he said wasn't overwhelming). For 30 BOB, it's great.
If the main courses weren't Zurich prices I'd come back for lunch :)

Enjoy the Bircher Muesli and the amazing fresh baked bread while sitting on the nice balcony and enjoy the sun.. The coffee and the homemade cakes are also a must!

Had low expectations being in the middle of a major shopping area. We just needed something to fill us up. Got the egg sandwich with mayo thinking it was going to be a scrambled egg salad sandwich. Turned out to be a fried egg sandwich with cucumbers, some excellent bread, and mayo on the side. The bread it what made it. Chocolate and platano crepe was also good. Pina jugo was just ok nothing fantastic. Great for a quick bit to eat but not culinary magic

Come here for good Swiss cakes and good coffee, but expect to pay European prices. It's a nice place to relax and recover from altitude sickness, on their poofs.

We went there because it was written: SWISS BAKERY. So we took some bretzels and grain breads. They were soooo good. We are from Switzerland and we know what it is, good bread ;) It was the best bread I had, since I'm in South America!
