Went to the restaurant exactly to try lama meat and it was the best decision I think! The grilled lama was very very tasty and interesting served and just as medium made as I asked! Very nice service as well, they were really attentive and well prepared and good English as well! Bolivian dry wine I asked was Cabernet Sauvignon which was good enough. And the price for all this was acceptable. The portion of lama was good, two normal pieces and plus bar salad with different salads and souces and with garnish included was about 14$ USD and a glass of wine 3$ USD.
So I recommend to try lama meat in La Tranquera restaurant just behind the buiding of Radisson Hotel. Enjoy it!

This review is for La Tranquera on Av. Ballivian in La Paz's Calacoto district, in the 5-star Camino Real Suites hotel. A La Paz friend had invited us to a Sunday lunch there around Christmas 2011. The food then was delightful. We went again last night, and were surprised at the difference. The surubi (a large river fish from Bolivia's tropical/subtropical regions) was dry and not fresh-caught. The Argentine beef was brought to the table in generous portions, on a sizzling slab of lava rock. But it lacked flavor and had a lot of fat. Meals include a varied cold salad bar and several hot items in chafing dishes (such as rice and fried yucca [also called manioc or cassava in some countries]) -- however, the yucca last night must have been kept in the chafing dish for hours because it was no longer crisp. The same salad bar table also has a variety of desserts: the homemade flan was excellent, but the chocolate cake was soggy.

That being said, I must mention that the service is highly professional (our waiter Marco was excellent and helpful), and the restaurant itself is attractive and has a very modern feel to it.

But for a 5-star hotel, the food was less than stellar.

I liked the experience, but being from São Paulo we always feel that the options are too few. The meat was good and the atention too. Nothing special but worth a visit.

One doesn't expect hotel restaurants to be among the finest places to have Argentine-style beef in town. This one is an exception. The one at Hotel Camino Real Calacoto (South Zone), that is. Well-heeled locals love to meet there for lunch on weekends, so reservations are advisable. The Tranquera at Camino Real in central La Paz is just average, but also a good bet, especially for working lunches.

Medallions of alpaca with black pepper sauce was excellent, bifo chorizo had very good taste but a little chewy. Bolivian La Concepcion Cabernet Sauvignon Riserva was also very good.
