4 guys from quebec, end of september 2012,, i think it is the best hotel that we could take in La Paz.. by the side of historical site. corner of the famous street Sagarnaga, and the witch street. room very clean, bath room very clean. breakfast... better to go outside for breakfast.
so we were in Bolivia, don't try to find the fresh bread and the good cold milk of Canada. staff very friendly and amable.

Room Tip: go outside for the breakfast

I expected more for what we paid - USD/90 is almost as high as it gets in La Paz but the standard didn't fully accompany the price.

The location is great and so is the renovated historical building, truly beautiful. The room was spacious, amazing bed and a bathroom to match.

The poor details were:

- Breakfast was comparable to other mid range hotels and even hostels we have been staying. Very less choice and it was not fresh. Particularly the bread, was always dry. In fact, I saw left over bread in other people's tables - the people from the restaurant should get the hint! You can't serve dry old bread and pastries in a place of this category! On the second day there was toast, already toasted! Cold and super dry again. Wouldn't it be better to have fresh bread and place a toaster for the customer to toast as they like? The rest of the choices are also rather limited. Only butter and manjar for the bread, basic fruits (pineapple and papaya, which are the cheapest and the ones you would get day after day in budget hotels), some cereal and not much more. There's eggs to order, but we didn't have.

- I have mixed feelings about the staff. The young lady who checked us in was lovely, but the man who does the morning shift not so much. First, we were extended out stay for a 2nd night and he asked us to pay for the 1st night, which I find unnecessary considering they already have our credit card details. Secondly, I didn't manage to call from my room in the 3rd floor as there was no indication on what the reception number would be on the phone - it said "operator" next to the 0, but that is not the correct number. When I came down and mentioned this, he had the nerve to say the correct number is written on the phone and other customers never have problems. What an attitude this guy had!

- While checking out, I had filled the comments card and was looking for the box to place it in, as mentioned in the card. The older lady who was at the reception at the time (management, perhaps?) asked if we had liked the hotel. I said we liked the hotel but didn't like the breakfast, and explained briefly why. Her reply was "Oh, OK. Thanks for letting me know" - what a way to address the issues! In the meantime, as there was no box for the comments card, I handed her my comments and she proceeded to read everything with a weird face while the receptionist was checking us out. If you know a customer is not 100% happy, wouldn't you say or do something about it? They rather just make faces and keep quiet.

- After we drank a couple of bottles of water from the mini bar on the first time but they never stocked with new ones for the 2nd night (even though they did clear the empty bottles). So you wake up thirsty in the middle of the night and you have either soft drinks or beer..

So, overall, the rooms are great, the showers have fabulous pressure (although there is no shelf in the show to put your soap, etc - not a big deal, but I will leave it here as a suggestion as well), but the breakfast and the inconsistency of staff make the place far from perfect.

I loved this hotel. The service was excellent, they brought me a free drink of coca tea for the altitude, they organized my airport transportation without any hassle, they even woke up the cook at 3 in the morning just for me so I wouldn't miss the complimentary breakfast when I had to catch my flight.

I loved the colonial style architecture and the modern twist they put on it. Throughout the hotel there were little homages to the original building's architecture and I appreciated the sense of history. I was in a single but they also gave me a quick tour and I saw the whole place. The suites are particularly great, and I also really love the courtyard and roof terrace.

The hotel is right next to the major tourist street (Sagarnaga) which is perfect for sightseeing, but the courtyards kept the hotel quiet and calm. The price was great, especially considering the quality and location. I paid 2/3 what I would have at the big-name hotels, and definitely got a better deal.

My only complaint is that the courtyard lights were distractingly bright as I tried to sleep. I think a thicker set of drapes would help out. Barring that, pick a room on the back courtyard or farther from the lights.

I highly recommend this hotel, it was the best out of the five hotels I stayed in while in Bolivia.

Room Tip: Towards the back of the hotel and on the third floor the rooms are the quietest and have less light...
