In fairness we turned up without a booking and managed to get a private room. However, the room was very cramped (bunk-beds) and pretty cold. The toilets and showers were only accessible by going outside (not great in the freezing cold) and the showers weren't hot. The bar looks good but the staff weren't particularly friendly and there was no atmosphere. The good? The location is good. We were given more blankets when asked and there are small lockers in reception. There's also a nice outside area which is probably really nice when warm outside. But I'd recommend staying elsewhere.

Great value for money, staff is amazing in particular Isabel who was superhelpful, we stayed 3 nights instead of 1 as originally planned.
Approx 10 minutes walk into main tourist area and same distance to bus terminal, very convenient.
Laundrette is nearby and hostel has a travel agency desk which can help with buses.
+ super clean
+ comfortable beds
+ fast wifi
+ plug sockets in lockers
-no cooking facilities (seems to be the norm in Bolivia)

We stayed in a private Double room
and that was fine - a big bed, everything was clean and we got towels - but no locker for the door and nobody told it before.. We just used our own..
The jacuzzi was out of water, i don't know if we could have asked for it..
The garden itself is really nice.
Now the bad things: Nobody seemed motivated to help us with anything, we got very short answers to questions (is a Lavanderia Open on sunday? - no) and if I wanted sth from the Bar in the afternoon i had to find someone and they forgot one of two ordered trinks...
Allover it was a nice stay but the staff should improve and a kitchen to cook for yourself would be great (this does not seem to be comon in La Paz so this is no negative point.)

Rooms are set round a pleasant courtyard with good views of La Paz but this is the only positive. Staff were generally very unhelpful (apart from "Watty" who was a font of knowledge for our forthcoming trip). Ordered lunch on arrival - Banana and honey pancake arrived as a dry pancake with no banana or honey in sight - apparently they had run out but neglected to offer anything else. Other food was also poor.
Ordered drinks in bar under 2x1 happy hour - bar manager claimed that it wasn't happy hour despite us pointing out the details on blackboard behind him - which he promptly wiped out.
On-site travel agent is also terrible value - go to the main tourist street in Central La paz for better deals
Learning point: Stay at Wild Rover in La Paz

Crappy and expensive double rooms. Accepted before seeing the room and they gave us a tiny closet with a bunk bed and shared, unisex, showers and toilets. Oh, and we had to pay extra for towels.
Since when did hostels become like Ryanair? Will we have to pay more if we bring a backpack???

This is the 3rd hostel I visited in La Paz. It is a nice one generally. Beds are good. Staff are not smiling but efficient to your needs. Bar is quiet (in a good way). Food is not their strong point. Cleanliness of rooms and toilets is just about adequate. The place is cold. Everywhere. But the main problem (and the point of this review) is the hot water. It is almost like a bad joke. There is system of heating water but it only works correctly if you are the only one in the common showers. With so many guests the chances that you will be the only one in the common shower is zero. So...when the person next to you turns his tap on yours switches to hell in a split second. There is no way to adjust to the changes even if you spend an hour -hoping that every one will finish and you can carry on showering. In the mean time you get seriously cold waiting. I wander why the management is not sorting it out. This is a prime need in cold La Paz. Taking 50Bs for a dorm bed (when you can have a privet room for 25Bs in the neighborhood) suggest that hot water is taken care off. Right? The way it is done, it is like throwing a crap system in place just to say "we have hot water" but not really care if guest can have a hot shower. To finish my review, if a hot shower matters to you, do not go to Bacoo.

Friendly staff and helpful. comfortable beds with lots of blankets and hot showers.
Its pretty close to the main bus station in La Paz and city centre.
only downside, the hostel is pretty cold during the Bolivian winter and ordered a meal at the bar which never came as the chef disappeared. cooked breakfasts are offered if the chef is around.
security is pretty good as they have lockers power points inside them.
