The best food on my trip to Bolivia and Peru, and great Coca Sours. The breakfast for guests is hit or miss and not always even offered, but the "pay for" meals at dinner are exquisite. Like the rest of the service at this hotel, it is average at the very best.

The decor in this restaurant defies explanation, but the food is quite good (by Bolivian standards), and offers a range of international and local food. The food presentation is a little bit 80s but I'd recommend this restaurant (located in Hotel Rosario) well ahead of the many low-grade backpacker dives in the area.

We went to this restaurant after a recommendation in our Lonely Planet guide said that it had a good salad bar. When we got there, were were promptly told there is no longer a salad bar (stupid guide) but we sat down to eat anyway. We were very glad we did!
The food was amazing, but by far the nicest we had had in La Paz. We had the salad to start (amazing, even for a salad) and the beef and chicken for the main. They were beautifully presented and amazing food quality. For dessert we had the mousse which was also amazing. The wine was not as great (Bolivian) but the beer was cheap. The staff were friendly and English speaking.
Overall, the whole three course meal for two with alcohol cost under £30 which was pretty cheap (especially for a beef fillet).
It you want a nice quality meal, in a good location with great service, choose this place!

We've been travelling for months now, and this was probably our best meal yet - and at US$14 a head for salad, main course and dessert!

The restaurant is a proper linen-tablecloths affair inside a nice hotel, the food is amazing and beautifully presented, and the service was really helpful and friendly. The value for money is great too - prices are a little higher than some other in La Paz, but on the other hand, an average tourist meal in Sagarnaga cafe is 35-65bs, while at the Tambo Colonial, 65bs gets you two courses of great food, as an entree at the buffet salad bar is included with the main courses.
Everything was nice, but the standouts were the llama steak with mustard sauce and the chocolate mousse with mint sorbet. We just wish we'd tried this place earlier, would certainly have come back more often!

Excellent service, English speaking staff with friendly demeanour. Good menu with reasonable selection of options, really good salad bar (included on cost of main meal) and fab chocolate mouse dessert.
