“A small hotel with great style and terrific service”
Reviewed December 15, 2010

Having researched this hotel carefully, I was not disappointed. Any hotel that serves up a glass of bubbly whilst you are registering is on the right track! All aspects of this hotel have been carefully thought through - the design is lovely, the food very good and most important the staff is very friendly and helpful and always very gracious and cheerful.

There were lovely little touches like fruit juice brought to you at the pool, a lovely library and free use of computers. The facilities also include free use of the jacuzzi and dry and steam saunas - the massage I had was very well done. There are a couple of running and cycling machines. They also have a private cinema although I didn't use it on this occasion.

Basically, this is a gem of a hotel when being on the smaller side (only 45 rooms) pays off with personal attention to detail. The only downside might be that it is a bit of a walk to the beach (15 - 20mins) but taxis are very reasonable. The Awa's swimming pool is also fairly small but great for lounging around.

We have spent one night at AWA and it was a nice option. Hotel is beautiful, well decorated, charming and clean. It is located near Punta's Shopping Mall, far from the beach and downtown. It doesn't have a parking area, but the street is calm and cars can be parked in front of the hotel. Staff is nice and the breakfast is quite good. Good value for the price.

The hotel is very well located and is very beautiful. Clean design but cozy, nice smell in everyplace, nice breakfast and very good rooms. Everything for a perfect stay. But the staff... c'mon... it seems they are always too busy (although with nothing to do) and too bored to serve or talk to you. So, all the magic is gone.
Resume: If you care about a good service when paying for it, consider another hotel.

I have never been greeted before with champagned, and my first thought was "I could get used to this!". You walk in and the hotel smells amazing. Wow. We walked into our (first) room, and bummer. I don't know what happened, but the room smelled like the bottom of a bird cage. I tried to stick it out for several hours to see if I could get used to it, but I just couldn't. I brought it to the attention of the staff and asked for something to mask the smell, but he said that in order to "pefume the room" they would have to let it air out, I believe, so they gave us another room. It was just as lovely as the first room, except it smelled great. Huzzah!

The breakfast spread is this enormous continental breakfast. I love it. The only thing I would have prefered is if they could keep the coffee in a self serve carrafe, rather than custom making each individual coffee. But I guess then I'd lose the customization? I can't complain, I frequently was offered coffee twice. Perfect!

We tried out the spa (nice!), the sauna and the steam room. Alll nice. We even tried out the theatre, and that was awesome! We had the whole room to us and it was so cool!

We found most of our dinners at Punta Shopping, which has a supermarket in it, and very affordable prices. Yes, the hotel is a walk from the beach, but it wasn't that bad at all.

The only thing I think Awa Hotel could improve on is something hard to descibe. While the staff were very cordial, polite and attentive, I didn't feel any "warm and fuzzies". They felt a little distant. Even the guy who poured my wine. It's hard to descibe, so I don't take many points off. Not everyone can be Casa Calma.

This is an excellent boutique hotel located on a quiet street, close to the Punta Shopping. Very clean, new, with a nice and helpful staff. Room service is quite expensive (U$ 4 for a bottle of water!). Good breakfast included.
