Best waffle ever!! The best place to stay in Punta del Este.
Expansive, ok, but worth it. Nice people, perfect staff.
It's amazing to take a break and spend some time with your wife/husband and kids.
Enjoy.

My boyfriend and I had a wonderful time at this quaint, cozy, elegant hotel when we traveled to Punta del Este this winter. For the duration of our stay, there was an unexpected and uncharacteristic lighting storm. While our hopes for laying on the beach were dashed, the hotel owner and concierge did an AMAZING job helping us to find fun activities around the area. The hotel food -- breakfast, lunch and dinner -- were delicious, if a touch pricey (The waffles in the tea room were amazing!!!!) I felt very taken care of during our entire stay. It was our first time to Uruguay but after staying at L'Auberge, definitely not the last!

We had, as usual, a superb one weekend stay at the best hotel in Punta. The food was excellent, the breakfast with freshly baked scones and unforgettable expressos. The service is invisible, but you know it is always there. Betty, at the reception, is worth a separate word of praise. A real home, away from home.

Room Tip: 45. Beautiful view of the gardens, roomy, private balcony. On a first floor.

This is perhaps one of the best boutique hotels I have ever stayed at (along with Llangoed Hall many years ago in Wales). The room we stayed in was beautiful. The grounds are very nice. Beautiful, well-maintained gardens. Short walk to the beach but secluded from traffic. The owners and staff are superb. Breakfasts are excellent as are the lunches. The only shortcoming is the variety on the dinner menu. The food is excellent but it is a samll menu so by the third or fourth you are hoping for more variety. But that is such a minor quibble about one of the best places I have ever stayed. I hope to come back in the future.

As a regular traveler to Uruguay it is almost a requirement, and certainly a privilege, to visit this family owned hidden gem. The elegant hotel oozes class and character, from the cozy rooms to the beautifully manicured garden with spaced out seating which offers generous opportunity to relax and enjoy the wonderful surroundings. Take a stroll to the beach or inland amongst the pine tree lined roads filled with chirping parrots, and the gigantic properties will not fail to impress. Tea time should not be missed - delicious waffles with various toppings are served at the foot of the majestic tower. The staff couldn't be more attentive and friendly, and the owners are the perfect hosts throughout. We cannot wait to return next year to this oasis of tranquility.

Room Tip: You cannot go wrong, all the rooms are great.

From the time that you drive up to the door of this majestic tower, you are catered to by one of the friendliest and most knowledgeable staff that you could desire. All of the gardens and field behind the hotel are meticulously manicured, giving an arboretum type of appearance. Our room accommodations were quite adequate, considering that we opted for a standard room. Maid service came into the room twice a day. Unbeknownst to us, there was some malfunction with the air conditioning unit. It was detected by the maid and immediately rectified. Breakfast is served in the same room as dinner, a very lovely setting, especially if you can be seated at an outside table. Besides the wide array of fruits , cheese, meat, and sweets, you may order eggs cooked in various ways. All of it was excellent! The hotel is located a few miles from the main port area, so I was thankful to have a car. We found parking to be no problem when we ventured into shopping and dining areas as well as the lots for the gorgeous beaches. You are easily able to bike or walk from the hotel to the Oceanside rambla that can take you for miles and miles of scenic views. I highly recommend this idyllic setting. I also suggest that you introduce yourself to Ignatio, the manager. He is most solicitous to your needs.

Room Tip: You may want to opt for a more expensive room if you would be staying in the room for an extended pe...

We have just stayed here for 5 nights as part of a tour of the region. First and foremost we would say that this is a beautiful old hotel with lots of character. The gardens are beautiful and it is a great place to spend a relaxing afternoon chilling out as it never feels crowded. The breakfast is served in a lovely setting and although relatively basic it is very nice and the staff really attentive. We opted for a bigger room and were glad we did so as from what we have seen the tower does seem a bit cramped. The only observations we would make are that they perhaps need to look at the plumbing, it's all very well to say that it's part of the character of an old building but that's a easy cop out - a 5 star hotel should offer a decent shower instead of a very old and cheap shower head with poor pressure surrounded by a cheap shower curtain. Also, as stated by an earlier contributor you are a fair way out of Punta (15 dollars by taxi) and the hotel is situated in a very nice but residential neighbourhood with no amenities nearby. This does have an appeal, but it can also be an issue. To further add to this the hotel focuses massively in the evening on its famous waffle operation and the result is that guests are left in a kind of limbo with nowhere to really go in the hotel as the bar was shut and the restaurant does not open until 9pm. They did offer to serve us a drink in the hotel reception but we declined this and jumped into a taxi into Punta. There is a tendency on here for the hotel to be a little defensive, but they perhaps should take well-meaning feedback in the spirit it is given. Overall we would most definitely stay here on our next visit.

Dear Ian and Max,

Thank you for visiting L'Auberge, and for your nice review.

We are glad you enjoyed your stay, and that you liked the hotel !

We will take a look into the plumbing as you suggest.
I agree it is one of the aspects to improve, and we are looking forward to investing in that aspect in the near future.

We want to be very receptive to comments and suggestions, and I always try to get the most of them, when they are well intended (unfortunately, this is not always the case).

I look forward to seeing you again soon, and it will be my pleasure to meet you personally.

Kind regards,

Ignacio.
Owner.
