Golden Beach Resort and Spa
Ranked #12 of 65 Hotels in Punta del Este
Reviewed April 1, 2011

Arrived in mid-march with a 60-person group from a US business school. No matter what you might optimistically think, Punta del Este drops DEAD after the first weekend in March. At night, about three bars and a casino were open at all, none of them very crowded.

As for the Golden Beach, its location is very central (one block from Brava beach, a few blocks from Mansa) and the rooms themselves are quite nice. The couch, kitchenette, and bedrooms are pretty spacious and well-equipped. The only problem with the rooms are the bathrooms, which are very 2-star in their appearance and equipment. Not much shelving, no real tub, and a vague feeling of dirtyness - no big problems but you could tell it wasn't a very classy place.

The breakfast buffet is rather pedestrian. No eggs (much less omelettes), one kind of bland cereal, no bacon (only meat is processed ham from a can), no waffles or pancakes or anything - it was very basic South American continental breakfast.

The pool was nice but small-ish, and the games room was fairly run down. You could get a game of ping-pong in, but you'd be chasing your balls into dirty corners. The foosball table was in a state of ruin. I applaud the effort to have some parlor games but it needs some work.

The staff were fairly helpful, although only a few of them spoke English and those not very well. They were very nice and eager to recommend things in the area, though. Overall, Golden Beach was decent but not spectacular.

Room Tip: Rooms on the 4th floor have rooftop accesss

Golden Beach Resort and Spa is very well located near the Atlantic ocean - beach is hardly 60 seconds walk - and all around there are places to eat and shop! so good location.

The rooms will surprise you! They are B I G, and free wifi internet is super cool! Rooms are well equipped with kitchenette and microwave oven too, so it is great for those travelling for vacations to enjoy these facilities. The bed is also big, and there are two big beds in the room, really big rooms. I think other hotels may call it a suite, in terms of size of the room and facilities!

The breakfast is served in the restaurant area and is fruits, some bread, sweet breads and fruit juice and coffee :) No eggs etc, so enjoy the veggies :)

From outside this doesn't look appealing so the hotel management should seriously upgrade the exteriors too. From the inside, you will be happy probably with the rooms and other facilities.

We didn't use the spa and the swimming pool area, but it is very well located and many guests were using these facilities.

It is hardly 10-15 minutes walk from CONCORD where conventions happen (and also where Casino is!)

Excellent location and service. Very friendly staff. You are within walking distance of Playa Brava and Playa Mansa. My room faces east and waking up with sunrise at around 6 am every morning. Breakfast excellent too, with a good choice of breads, cakes and beverages. The master suite is a very nice room with its own balcony and roof amenities. WiFi is excellent and readily available. It is a dream holiday and book early.

The best part about this hotel is the spa and indoor swimming pool. Had a nice massage at the spa - the only problem was that the massage rooms were not sound proofed so was not completely relaxing when you hear all the outside noises. We stayed here for 6 nights - our room was on 1st floor with no view. We had no bath and with a young baby this was a shame. Our room smelt really musty - like it had not been used in months - it had clearly not been aired out before our arrival. The room continued to smell bad for the time we were there, even though it was serviced daily - the hotel needs to get air fresheners!. The pillows are all feather so if you don't like this type of pillow then bring your own! We had absolutely no information about anything in our room, not even a fire evacuation sign!, so we had to ask about everything (what time is breakfast, what is at the spa, how the WIFI worked, how to use the safe etc). The WIFI only works in the common areas, not in the rooms - this was a big disappointment. The location of the hotel is o.k. for shops and restaurants but not that close to the beach (about 4 blocks away). We didn't use the outdoor pool because it was too cold, nor did we use the games room. The staff only spoke a little bit of English so this was tricky at times. The breakfast was nice and it is on for a long time which is good. The restaurant is not open for any other food at other times of the day - just private functions (which are super noisy when they are on). I wouldn't go back to this hotel.

i found this hotel great, large and comfortable rooms, nice common areas such as outside pools with couches for sun baths, close to everything you need like restaurants, markets, stores, bars and beaches Wireless internet, breakfast and parking is included in the rate which is not expensive. It was goog to be on the top floor as these rooms have a private terrace with ocean view.

It was great to go to Punta del Este on last October 11th, as it is a date in which people from Uruguay, Argentina and Brazil comes there to enjoy the long weekend. We choose Golden Beach for its location, but we also get impressed with the size of the rooms and hotel services, it has an excellent indoor pool, and three outdoor pools, sauna, kids club, delicious breakfast and well trained staff. More than we expected for U$S 150 per night in a special date.

I came to south america for a month and i must say that i didn´t expected much from punta del este in august as it is the lowest season, however i get really satisfied with the place and surely i´ll come back next summer to know "the other" punta del este. I stayed at Golden Beach, which really is an apart hotel, very well located at the "peninsula" as local people call the downtown of the city. The rooms are really comfortable, the one i stayed at, with a great sea view, excellent breakfast and pleasant hot water swimming pool. In the night of August 24th, there is a national party and people of all ages come out to the discotheques as they celebrate the "Nostalgy night" and oldies are played everywhere, it was fun to see couples of 50 years old with teenagers at the same place. I took a nice experience from this trip. Excellent staff at the hotel also
