“home away from home”
Reviewed May 21, 2012

We spent a lovely afternoon on the patio enjoying a marvelous meal with friends. So very nice to be able to show up casually dressed, some friends brought thier dog (one reason we were on the patio), and that children are welcome. Both Moises the owner and his wife have created a very comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. We love knowing that we're eating healthy, homemade delicious food, served well and priced affordably. Surprizingly, the restaurants in Punta del Este have very little variety, considering the international mix of people who live/ visit here. Calexico is a treasure for those of us who yearn for a great neighborhood place to eat and to feel as though we're visiting friends. We are pleased to see more and more people learning about Mexican cuisine and, like us, returning more and more frequently.

“Delicioso!”
Reviewed April 27, 2012

Great place to enjoy a great lunch or dinner. Extensive menu provides lots of choices for all palates, if you like spicy, or just plain delicious. The flautas was the first dish I tried and it almost looked too good to eat, almost. While it comes with rice and beans, at my request the owner was very accommodating in changing those for a fresh salad. The next evening I felt I had to go back for more savory Mexican flavours with more friends and we all enjoyed the selection of dishes we tried. To add to the mix a couple of us had margarita's to quench our thirst, ahhhh. The presentation of each plate is only the beginning, everything is made to perfection. It is so refreshing to have this wonderful Mexican restaurant at a convenient location in Punta and open so that we can enjoy it during the day or evening. The dessert was even better than the main dishes, I highly recommend the chocolate brownie, warm, with a surprise crunchy chocolate filling, almost too rich to eat, almost. If you find it too difficult to leave all this behind you can also order some tortilla chips to take back home with you for some late night snacking.

“Great food, great service and fantastic owner”
Reviewed April 18, 2012

Very nice Mexican restaurant in Punta. Everything was freshly cooked and the owner is very friendly and will tell you all about the food that he obviously loves. We ate very well here and he even offered us a complimentary dish which he was thinking of putting on the menu. The home-made hot sauce was delicious with the enchiladas. Before we went into to the restaurant we sat outside and enjoyed a plate of nibbles with our drinks. The weather was not good and the owner even offered to drive us back to our hotel after the meal.......how many restaurants do that!
We wish him and his family the best of luck with his endeavours and hope that this will be a great success.

“Amazing and delicious.”
Reviewed April 7, 2012

A great restaurant, period. Everything is made from scratch and the owner is passionate about his food. Great menu, wine list and atmosphere. Loved the "Combo platter" w enchiladas, taco and pork. Ask for the owner's homemade hot sauce. Loved this place and we will be back.

“A taste of Southern California in Punta del Este, Uruguay”
Reviewed April 4, 2012

I live in Punta del Este Uruguay and am glad we finally have an authentic Mexican food restaurant in town. Everything at Calexico is fresh, even the corn tortillas and sauces are made on site. The first time there I got the fiesta platter that is a sampling of what Calexico has to offer. It's good. Since then I got the trio of enchiladas served with decorative sauces. If you are from the US Southwest, stop into Calexico for a Corona beer and a plate of nachos - and you will quickly remember what you've been missing.
