A perfect restaurant in Bikini beach, Punta del Este UY, don't miss it.
A excellent atmosphere and trend decor, staff very helpful and kind,
food and drinks impeccable. Try a mojito while waiting for a typical esteña food.

My wife and I ate at O'Farrell restaurant during our brief visit to Uruguay before the high season had started. Before giving a review of the food and atmosphere, I would first like to warn other restaurant-goers that this restaurant does not accept credit cards inclusive of the months April through November. We were not aware of this, even though (ironically) American Express had made our reservation. (Also, as an fyi, when this restaurant does accept credit cards, in December through March, they only take American Express so plan to pay cash unless you have an Amex card.) Also, neither the manager who seated us nor our waiter let us know that only cash would be accepted. Ultimately, this became problematic because we did not have enough pesos on us to cover the bill. The availability of ATMs in Uruguay is sparse (supposedly until 2013), and we actually had to drive to the other side of town to take cash out to then drive back to the restaurant and pay the bill. Needless to say, this was not a positive way to end the dining experience at O'Farrell. Other than this aspect, the service at O'Farrell was fine; everyone was pleasant and accommodating. It felt like a very family-oriented business. I will add though, the waiter kept bringing us bottles of water without confirming if we wanted more water and those bottles wound up being on our bill. In the future, we would have preferred to been asked whether we wanted something if we knew we would be charged for it.

The food and atmosphere of O'Farrell was fine. The restaurant had an outside and inside area. It was very cozy and quaint, but also romantic. The food was good. The bread basket was amazing; there were a variety of breads all served fresh out of the oven. For appetizers we ordered the cheese selection and south atlantic shrimp. Both were tasty and highly recommended. For dinner, we ordered the paella which was fantastic though it had a bit too many almonds, and the duck. The duck was a little disappointing; it was chewy and served luke warm. We were too full to try dessert.

All in all, I am not sure that we would go back here. I had the chance to speak to the owner the next day when I came back to the restaurant to pay the bill since there was no ATM available at the time and she said she would speak to her staff about the comments we had...maybe it was just an off day.

We enjoyed a lovely evening at O'Farrell. The food was excellent and the wine selection was extensive. The restaurant had a warm and welcoming ambiance. There was live music and the staff were attentive and friendly. I would recommend this restaurant if you are in the La Barra/Manantiales/Jose Ignacio area.

For many years I heard about O'Farrell, but this was the first time we tried it, and I regret we didn't do it earlier. Good music, nice place, and the meal starts - small and hot home made bread with a chickpea paté which had an intriguing season. A few minutes later, a small portion of salmon on a toast and a shot of a non alcoholic drink made of melon and ginger were served as part of the usual service. As main course we had the langostino ravioli and the catch of the day - sole - with vegetables on a "bed" of a creamy potato pure - the food was perfect. Don't forget to ask for a table on the backyard, it is the nicest location in the restaurant.
