“Wonderful setting with tasty food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 11, 2014 via mobile

We had the pleasure of staying at L'Auberge for a few days. While there, we dined one evening when the special was moussaka. Although their version was different from what we have had in Greek restaurants, it was quite tasty. The filet lacked somewhat in beef flavor and was not as tender as I had anticipated. Service was very friendly and efficient. Our bottle of Tannent wine opened nicely and accompanied both entrees very well.

“Waffles Not”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 30, 2013

If you really like being ripped off try the L'Auberge waffle and tea room. We recently visited it with three children who love waffles as a result of trip advisor reviews. Bill for 5 waffles with toppings - 3 glasses of chocolate milk - 2 bottles of water and one coffee came to about 200 US. Chocolate milk alone was 10 dollars a small glass. Waffles for 25-30 a piece with 2 toppings - we expected heaven and might have forgiven all if the waffles were delicious but , while they were big enough , they were very average, delivered to the table not very hot with toppings that were ordinary. Overall we were very disappointed to have driven 20 minutes to try this place.

LAuberge, Owner at L'Auberge, responded to this review, January 2, 2014
Peter,

Thank you for visiting L'Auberge.

I am sorry that you did not like our waffles. I guess you are one of the few very rare exceptions, since most of our visitors love them.

Our hotel and tea room has been open since 1948 (66 years now) serving belgian waffles and we have earned a very high reputation based on high quality home made products, and excellent service; all of which is thanks to honest daily work from our staff and directors. But one thing we are not doing is "ripping people off" as you say - which by the way I find so lame to say on a public web site and not face to face.

Prices always respond to demand.
I have traveled the world, and have seen and paid higher prices for products which are easily found anywhere and are served without any service or surrounding.
Think of the cost of a hot dog in the street in NYC, and tell me if our waffles, which are exclusive and historic in Punta del Este, and correctly served on a table with a carefully maintained surrounding and served by helpful and friendly staff are expensive...

I understand that taste is subjective, and while I support the idea of different opinions, I think there is no need to criticize in a harmful way.

I am confident that we can make you change your mind if you visit us again because I trust that the whole product we offer is worth it.

Regards,
Ignacio Carrera

“Much more than the famous waffles!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 14, 2013

The famous brunch with waffles, great coffee (or chocolate) and dulce de leche certainly worse the visit and so many positive reactions. But I must say that the dinner itself is a much better experience!
Try the soup of the day (mine was a superb carrots soup) and if you enjoy some meat forget everything else and go for the medalions with spice and potatoes (with a great wine and blueberry sauce).
The place atmosphere, the lovely staff and great food worth the price.

“Excellent!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2013

This hotel is just what you want for a short get away with your spouse. Elegant, cosy, comfortable, excellent service, in the woods of La Brava in Punta del Este's classic "golf quarter". Fine breakfast and in the afternoon famous Belgian goffres. Worth its cost.
