“The Old City in Sana'a : architectural beauty, history, and more”
Reviewed June 28, 2013

This most recent visit to the Old City in Sana'a (there have been many since 2008) reminded me yet again what an extraordinary place this is. Actually, there were two visits during this trip: at 6 a.m. one morning to have the experience of "white coffee" -- a real treat -- and visit the Old Mosque, which is being renovated; and in the evening to visit the area and purchase Yemeni coffee, spices (from Yemen and throughout the region) and handicrafts. The architecture is really quite extraordinary, the ambience welcoming, and there is a wide range of diverse goods available from charming merchants. Having a Yemeni friend or colleague with you is important for translation and help with negotiation.

“Amazing”
Reviewed May 6, 2013 via mobile

This city is absolutely amazing! We have visited it on our way to Socotra Island and were pleasantly suprised by it's architecture. I've seen it on pictures, but to see it with your own eyes, it's even more beautiful than imagined!

“One of a kind!”
Reviewed April 11, 2013

A visit to the Old City takes you back in time hundreds of years.... Architecture of mud brick towers is not matched anywhere in the world... The Old City layout is divided into the souk, different residential quarters, mosques, and gardens called meqshama, all harmoniously intertwined to create an amazing labyrinth of a city still intact, and which has been continuously inhabited for centuries... A must visit...Love it! Some inhabitant's obvious disregard for the heritage of this site construct using methods foreign to the local community. This is obviously becoming a problem and if not curbed will negatively impact the future of Old Sana'a.
