“3 times....3 of my top 5 meals”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 26, 2012 via mobile

Amazing..service with a cold towel, tomato consume, and lavash with capsicum dip. I was alone this time and the servers brought me magazines for my stay. Have the 5 course email and 3 course but went light this time. Breads werer warm and perfect, you'd expect nothing less of a French place. Side of sinqch ws fresh and crunchy. Chose the veal "from head to toe"....tail ravioli, filled with a fresh spice mix, tenderloin, embracing the gentle texture of the meat, then the show stopper ...cheek that may be the most tender and savory bites I have ever had! Could I have eaten it with a straw??? Likely. A nice Pinot was a delicious compliment (cote de Beaune 2008)

“Simply sensational”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 25, 2012

We visited Bord Eau for the second time in August, having been very impressed during our first visit earlier this year. In short, the food, service and overall experience was wonderful.

We were warmly greeted by our server and led to our table with views over the water to the Grand Mosque. Almost immediately we were presented with a warm towel and a Tomato gazpacho "palette cleanser" and further welcomed with a complimentary glass of champagne each. This was follwed with a delicious amuse bouche of creamy carrot soup.

The menu is diverse with a good range of fish and meat dishes. The starters are predominantly fish based and there are not many vegetarian options (not an issue for us) however from speaking to friends who have also visited I am told that if you cannot find a suitable option, the staff are happy to help you order something off menu, which is a nice touch. The menu, including prices, can be viewed here:
http://www.shangri-la.com/abudhabi/shangrila/dining/restaurants/bord-eau/menu-wine/

We ordered the Organic Blue Prawn and the White and Green Asparagus soup (although it had a slightly grander name than "soup"!). Both dishes where wonderfully presented and perfectly cooked. The portions are relatively small but coming after the amuse bouche and servings of bread that preceded the arrival of the starter this is no bad thing. In terms of the bread, we were offered a choice of several breads and the staff continued to offer further servings throughout our meal.

For our mains I chose the veal, with 3 different cuts served medium rare with a small decoration of vegetables. My better half chose the Soulard Duck, served as 2 reasonably large fillets, again medium rare and we shared the truffle mash and additional vegetables. The meat was fabulously cooked, exactly as per our request. The 3 different cuts of veal allowed some small experimentation without straying too far from a favoured meal and the duck was full of flavour. The truffle mash is incredibly rich - just the way we like it!

As this was a birthday treat we bypassed the usual desserts, having arranged a birthday cake in advance with the reservations team. This was brought out and served with 2 further glasses of complimentary champagne - a lovely touch. The cake itself was delicious, I was a little concerned at missing out on the chocolate extravaganza which I loved on my previous visit but the cake was outstanding and big enough for 4 (great when there are only 2 of you dining!).

With all of the free champagne we didn't get to explore the wine menu too extensively but were impressed that having made our choice, the waiter recommended an similar wine that would be a better match for the food. Not only was he ultimately right but he offered it to us at the same price as our original choice, the emphasis clearly being on ensuring we had the best possible evening rather than trying to upsell a more expensive option.

Which leads me onto the service which was quite simply the best we have ever experienced. We have been lucky enough to visit many fine restaurants but Bord Eau's staff stand out for many reasons, in particular the attentiveness, speed of service and deep knowledge of the products - our server (Dharb) was able to explain the source and method of preparation for a number of dishes that we considered and made astute recommendations on both the food and wine.

So overall, an outstanding birthday meal that was made even better when the bill came. Not only had they given us 4 glasses of complimentary champagne but the birthday cake dessert was gifted to us also. So all in all, great food and outstanding service in a lovely ambiance and with several additional flourishes to ensure we had a fabulous evening - well done Bord Eau, outstanding.

Everything they do has flair and style. Get tasting menu with the wine option. We did not have a single dish that was not outstanding.

“Outstanding food, little ambience”

High-end French fare in a room that unfortunately resembles a 1980's film set. Perfect service and magnificent wine list. Book an outside table if the weather is not too hot.

“Perfect”

A great late evening diner served with elegance and offering sophisticated french cooking. Maybe a bit too sophisticated, but no reason to complain... Excellent wines from the New World actually!
Expensive, but quite perfect...
