Just love it! Staff is attentive without being pushy. Room I had last time had a fantastic walk in closet. Plus that you just walk a few minutes to the souk where Abu Dhabis expats hang out in bars & restaurants.
Make sure you get a room that is not too far away from lobby though. Can be long walks!

Room Tip: Ask for one w walk in closet. AND - make sure you are not too far away from the lobby. As the hotel...

Just returned from a short half-term break, Hotel well equipped, clean, staff very attentive, concierge very helpful (not so the restaurant booking desk though!) but the major gripe was the delay in receiving beverages! Seemed that there was plenty of waiters but limited bar staff, they took umbrage if you went to the pool bar yourself but often waited 20 minutes for drinks to be delivered. Same with coffee at breakfast.

Final bit of criticism was that the buffet seafood dinner on Monday nights, whilst having an excellent selection with bountiful choices most of the hot courses were at the best luke warm!

Great views across the water to the mosque, go soon, as it looks like building work will soon scupper the view. standard quality for a shrangri-la, nice rooms, bathrooms, all very spacious and excellent standard. service in the hotel restaurant one evening was sadly not great, and when we complained, there was a lot of time spent blaming each other (staff) rather than dealing with the issue. Good location, excellent bus service to get into town and local attractions, nice pool, excellent pool service, and good restaurants in the adjoining bazaar. becuase of the location, business hotel as well as pleasure.

Room Tip: ask for a view to the mosque

The hotel is perfect to relax and just be your self. The rooms and facilities are very comfortable. Very nice bathroom. The viwes are great. Chi Spa is a wonderful experiance.

The only down side is that the room can get humid. You'll need to set the A/C at a very low temp to overcome the humidity.

A friend who lives in Abu Dhabi recommended we stay here, and boy are we glad we did. What sets this hotel apart from the rest is the quality of the staff. From the moment Diba welcomed us in the lobby to Membar taking our drinks orders at the hotel pool bar to Joseph remembering our names and special request for gluten free bread at breakfast, we were treated to first class customer service by the highly trained staff of the Shangri La for the duration of our stay. This coupled with spacious rooms with an Arabian touch, and stunning views of the Grand Mosque are reason alone to stay here. Don't hesitate to book.

My husband, 7 month old son and I stayed at the Shangri-La, Abu Dhabi for 7 nights at the end of September 2011. I had read great reviews on Trip Advisor (which confirmed why we should book there) and we were not disappointed. You arrive to a lovely lobby area to be checked in by very friendly staff. We had a massive room, that was more like a suite than their standard deluxe room. It had a balcony, a massive bedroom area (which was great for having a baby with a pushchair and a cotbed to fit in - still had loads of space to walk around), had a seating area, an office!!, a massive walk-in wardrobe/closet area, a lovely big bathroom with a separate rain shower, toilet and bath. We were very impressed with the room. We were also equally impressed with the room cleaning service and how friendly ALL the staff were around the hotel - a very big well done to Shangri-La for employing great staff.

We ate in the buffet restaurant and it was very good quality, with freshly cooked fish or meat when you wanted it.

My only 2 gripes with this hotel is 1) the air conditioning in our room was freezing. I had it set on the highest setting (30), but I had to sleep with the extra blanket and sometimes the thick bath robe as well, just to feel comfortable. My baby was also very cold. With the outside temperature being SO hot, we tried turning the air-con off and opening the balcony doors, but the room soon became sweltering, so you had no choice but extreme heat or freezing cold! 2) For a large hotel, there were not enough pool beds. There are 2 pools. We couldnt sit and use the kids pool several times as there were no seats by the infinity pool. These are only 2 minor points.

We were very impressed with this hotel, it's services and it's friendly staff and we have no hesitation in recommending it to others.

Room Tip: We requested a high floor with a sea view and we got that and it had great views.

From the moment we arrived we were treated like royalty! The hotel is beautiful as are the rooms. There are two pools, an infinity pool which has the pool bar and a stunning view of the Sheik Zayed Mosque. Rooms were well appointed with fresh fruit and water provided daily. Buffet breakfast was excellent and found it hard not to indulge in the lovely pastries & cakes on offer every day!

We ate at Pearls & Caviar on Sunday which is their Supper Club night - food was excellent with a set menu plus unlimited wine, beer or house cocktails for 195 AED - you could re-order anything from the menu too at no additional cost. Well worth it, would have worked out very expensive otherwise - given the nature of the hotel the food and drink are reasonably high although this did not spoil our holiday. Check out our reviews of Ushna, Frankies and Cho Gao which were also very good.

We would definitely return!
