We stayed there for the F1 weekend. This hotel claims to be 5*! Well that is very hard to believe. The service was unbelievably bad! We sat at the pool bar, asked for a drink, there were 6 staff there, it took them 30 minutes to actually get our drink to us although we were just a few feet away. Lots of people were complaining. Waiting for food for over an hour, then not everything arrived, waiting for drinks etc... awful awful service! The same with the restaurant Azure I think it is called! Service was awful. Checking out, it would not have hurt the woman behind the desk to smile. She obviously hates her job! Will never ever go there again.

Unlike the other reviews on this hotel we had a wonderful holiday at Al Raha.

I chose this hotel for the location as we were going to the F1 race and having read the bad reviews I was nervous going and didnt know what to expect. Please do not let all the negative reviews put you off because this hotel is really lovely and we had an amazing holiday there.

We spent 5 days last week at the hotel and from the time we arrived until we left yesterday we had the best of attention from all the staff. We arrived late on Thursday night and our check in was very quick. We stayed in one of the suites in the new wing and it was absolutely amazing. The room was out of this world and the view was fantastic

Buffet breakfast was lovely, plenty of choice. We had dinner 2 nights in the Saville restaurant which was buffet and again food choices was plentiful.
The pool area is lovely with private beach. Always plenty of sunbeds and we had one of the staff put our towels on the beds and organise our umberella etc.

Atmostphere in the Black Pearl bar was great and had music every night.

The staff were very friendly and couldnt do enough for us. They called our room regularly to check we were happy with our room.

We could not fault this hotel and would certainly recommend it hotel to anyone. Do book a room in the new wing as it is beautiful.

Thank you to all Management and Staff for a wonderful holiday. We will certainly be back.

Room Tip: Book a room in the new wing as these rooms are beautiful

Now, first of all the Al Raha has good facilities: lovely pool and beach, good restaurants with good food, a bar, excellent gym, squash courts, sauna & steam rooms. All fine and dandy.

However, it's service where Al Raha lets itself down - reception confused my booking but did put it right swiftly. Nonetheless, they failed to understand what was included in my package and regularly pursued me for extras that weren't extras. The restaurant staff were slightly better but not 5 star standard.

My room was very large but a little tired - bent light shades, not all light bulbs working for example. The air-con was too fierce and I repeatedly requested room service help with this. They repeatedly said they would help....but never did. But when I requested special pillows, they arrived pronto.

That's the Al Raha - hit and miss. It has much to reccommend it, but lets itself down.

Location wise it's a fair way from downtown Abu Dhabi - 15-20 minutes by cab - and has little of interest close by. There is an adjacent mall with an okay Indian restaurant.

And definitely go kayaking through the Mangroves - a highlight.

Room Tip: The rooms on the lower floors seem to be larger, and self evidently sea-view is best as the rooms ha...

We picked this hotel for the weekend to watch the Formula 1 race as it is very close to the race track. Unfortunately the hotel was a big let down. In fact I wish I had read the comments posted here, because we basically had the same problems - lack of organization and lack of leadership.

Some of the problems we experienced;
1. Arrived 13;30 and was told they are still cleaning the room. Waited more than 2 hours until we made a fuss and threatened to leave. Eventually got a room. Then the room keys did not work. Eventually got in the room and found it is still occupied by other guests. How is this possible???
2. Eventually got a new room. The place looked nice but clearly stank. Eventually tracked the source of the smell to the sofa, which smelled as if it has been peed on. Cleaning services obviously is not doing their job either.
3. Going for breakfast. Been given a table and started to help ourselves at the buffet. Arrived back at the table to find it was just given to other guests that just arrived. Had to ask three times for coffee at breakfast and then got a cup of cold coffee. The restaurant is clearly as leaderless as the hotel.

On a positive note, the pool was nice and the food is good.

Basically the place looks nice and certain sections does operate as expected but don't go if you expect good service in the normal basic hotel functions. They clearly do not have a hotel manager that knows how to run a hotel.

The new rooms in the hotel are amazing and have great view. bathrooms are huge, high ceilings, nice bed and wonderful outlets.
Rooms have nice technology, 40" TV, FM player, IPod docking station with nice speakers & the best part i like is the light between bedroom and the bathroom.
You can have a great breakfast in the balcony of the rooms.

You should be aware that you will try to be given an inferior room one you have paid for, this avoided simply by having its resevations papire brought, in our case. But having said this, so we got a 1-class operating personnel, as well as the opportunity to enjoy the pool and the salted sea water, but only after time. 09:00 due to lack off livguards, this is a recurring problem in Dubai and Abu dhabi, but nice it was when we were allowed. The cleaning was very good. However, it must be said that they are not biting his mark in that we did not want the bedding changed, due to their "Go Green service", which deals with protecting the environment by not unnecessarily having to wash bedclothes. But if you live by drinking money, you naturally want to create a good profile! Staff seemed otherwise really responded to help us. The hotel has a Car park, and does not cost extra. If you are coming by car from Dubai, continue to run the freeway until you pass the characteristic building that is round but looks like a diamond, the turn off is 100-500m for the building, and is signposted "beach hotel" please also note to run past the hotel in the first place. Eating dinner at the hotel are incredible and a sight worth (buffet), but somewhat pricey 340 AED for 2, but recommended to try. Breakfast buffet is located on a 132 AED for 2 people. A little side note is that there was unfortunately a little construction noise on the last night, and we tried to stop the noise, both by calling the front desk, and to get a watch, but nothing helped, construction noise lasted from at .20:00 - 22:00 in the evening. There is a mall next to the hotel and a supermarket that has everything. The hotel is family friendly, and contains a separate pool for children, with water slide. It must be said that some of the rooms overlook rear view of a freeway these cant you avoid as in our case by reserve a partial ocean view and you bring the papir to dokoument you case. The over assessment is that this hotel is really good, and may well recommended, as staff were welcoming and helpful, and the price has matched what we got for the money.

So having read the reviews we still decided to give this place a try.

An hour or so from Dubai on the outskirts of Abu Dhabi the hotel has a great location to cater for all, on the beach, good facilities, a great pool area and easy access to both cities.

So check in...what an experience, we arrived early around midday walked into the impressive lobby to try and check in (although we knew 2pm was the listed time) and was pleased to find the rooms, we'd booked two were available, what then followed for the next hour was a comedy of bad service. In summary there were 6-7 people all busy but no-one knew what the other was doing resulting in our rooms finally not being available then came the one person who seemed to have some common sense. The assistant guest relations manager, basically took ownership and resolved what was fast becoming a very difficult situation within 5 mins we were checked in and shown to the room...royal suite, result.

The service issues continued, for example my children having their bags searched and over zealous security guards removing water from their bags, the children are both under 5.

The positives, great pool area, great food quality and selection and dinner and breakfast on a par with any five star hotel and one or two hidden gems in the staff who at present are fighting an up hill battle.

So in summary this hotel lacks leadership, this is particularly evident at every point where there is interaction with the customer namely front desk and restaurants however the hotel has potential but needs real attention. If you're prepared to take the risk its worth a try.

Finally was interesting to see in the lobby that in 2007 this hotel won the MENA hoteliers award for best new five star hotel, unfortunately this hotel is now not five stars, how times change.
