Only in the UAE would you find a 'couples only' nightclub. Why would any couple want to go to a nightclub in the first place? The whole point of going out clubbing is to meet other people - usually of the opposite sex. No groups of guys or single guys allowed! I traveled from my hotel across town (about 25 km) with an Italian friend - we were both wearing trendy clothes and were sober - but were sternly told - couples only! Lots of other people had been turned away too so it wasn't an excuse for the two of us. This type of nonsense is why I hate nightlife in the UAE. I'm sure there is a hierarchical VVIP system inside the dump too - velvet robes and burly bouncers blocking the lesser mortals from the most 'exclusive' seating areas. Reality check: Abu Dhabi or Dubai corporate nightlife fare will never ever be cool on the world clubbing map regardless of what big-name DJs and acts they manage to pay off to come over here. Check out the mosques and the beaches of the UAE but save your clubbing money for New York, Tel Aviv, Rio, Bangkok, Madrid, London, New Oreleans, Amsterdam and Tokyo.
