“Brunch for the meat eaters!”
Reviewed July 23, 2014

The brunch at Ingredients has one of the best varieties of meats, including beef, lamb and fish, which are prepared in several different ways and served with delicious sides. I loved the sushi station and the Thai soups too. There are many brunch deals in Abu Dhabi, and this one is sure amongst the best. The live cooking stations served great dishes, including pan fried foie gras, stir fries and quesadillas. The service is also excellent and the cake stand the final stop for those with a sweet tooth!

“Quality, quality, quality at very reasonable price”
Reviewed June 1, 2014

We have been guests of the hotel several times. We took a look at the buffet dinner last time and we tried it today. The selection of dishes is a little smaller than a week ago. Cakes , Grana Padano wheel, and a few more things were missing. However the choice is quite large and all ingredients are very fresh and very high quality! I had fish; you can choose between shrimps (looked like size 40/60), squids and salmon grill. Nice but not impressive. Sushi was prepared on request. Nice, but it was served almost at room temperature ... therefore taste changed a lot. Soft drinks, water (included Perrier), juices and coffees were included. Overall a very value price per price. Courtesy is above expectations. I agree with another reviews that at the phone is quite hard to understand them :) ... but at the end we had a very good service. Will try again soon for lunch!

“Rich Lunch Buffet - Less Charming Setting”
Reviewed May 14, 2014

This was a business lunch with a mid-size group. The buffet was impressive with a very good food selection (Mediterranean, Fusion. Asian, Chinese, Italian, ...) and deserts are a must. The service was professional and impeccable.

In terms of setting, the place was rather full (probably because of the few other workshops held there on the day) which meant it was a bit loud. But overall it didn't feel warm or commensurate with the luxury of the hotel. Still the partial view on the mangroves could compensate!

“All Day Dining Restaurant Falls Short”
Reviewed February 26, 2014

We dined at Ingredients twice during our stay at the Eastern Mangroves Hotel & Spa by Anantara.

Our arrival coincided with Friday Brunch, which as all expats know is a ritual and tradition in this part of the world. However, neither of us have big appetites that could do justice to the cost of the Buffet Brunch and so we asked if we could order from the a la carte menu. Our hostess left to ask her supervisor if we could…which was rather strange I thought. Had no one ever asked that question before? We were about to leave (as we were just left hanging there wondering why this had become an issue) when we were asked by other staff to take a seat as the hostess would be back with an answer shortly. The answer was yes.

Once our order arrived it was just what we wanted and so we left happy customers.

Our second visit to Ingredients was for breakfast the following morning/Saturday. Again, we are not big eaters and prefer a light healthy breakfast to start the day.

We seated ourselves as the restaurant was almost full and the staff were very busy.

We both ordered egg white omelettes and coffee. In the meantime we explored what was on offer at the buffet and made our selections. Surprisingly, there was no orange juice available in the juice area. Next to it were refrigerated display cases containing yogurts. I found it awkward to access and read what was on offer. Now with my yogurt, I noticed the Orange Juice jugs had arrived in the meantime. When I returned to our table, the OJ tasted very bitter.

Next the server arrived with our omelettes, however, they were regular omelettes and not egg white. He took them away. Two minutes later, another server delivered the exact same omelettes…again we repeated our order. Third attempt was successful.

My cappuccino was very bitter and so I asked for an Earl Grey tea. Not the end of the world but I do love my morning coffee. The server offered to make me another cappuccino and this time make it right…but I decided to stick with tea this time.

The selection of breakfast food was lacking in the variety of food we particularly enjoy. To give you an example of what I was expecting I would like to suggest you check out Olea at the St. Regis Saadiyat Island. Their breakfast buffet is amazing, in selection, quality and flavourful healthy options.

Upon leaving Ingredients we went upstairs to the Mangrove Lounge. I suspect we would have been better having our simple breakfast there.

Having arrived in Abu Dhabi in 2010, I was around when Eastern Mangroves Hotel & Spa by Anantara opened its doors in June 2012. I found the breakfast disappointing, especially compared to our experience at Qasr Al Sarab.

I hope these details can be ironed out before our next visit to Eastern Mangroves.

“Insane!!!!”
Reviewed February 17, 2014

We were taken away for a surprise – lets leave Dubai for a while – Valentines weekend trip last week and ended up staying at the beautiful Anantara Hotel Resorts and Spa, in Abu Dhabi. As we heard so many positive things about the hotel before, we were excited to check in and start our weekend trip.

Up on arrival we were greeted friendly, welcomed with cold, scented towels and an iced date juice. One of us was asked to show the passport and to fill out the forms before we were escorted to out beautiful room at the second floor, overlooking the mangroves of Abu Dhabi.

As it was quite late already, and we were hungry we ordered a small snack with room service and went to bed, looking forward to the breakfast next morning.

The breakfast was served at Ingredients, the all day dining restaurant of the hotel. Being located on the ground floor of the hotel, it was easy to find and one could smell the scent of freshly brewed coffee, pastries and eggs already when exiting the elevator.

The restaurant is huge, and most probably can be filled up with around 250 guests at a time inside as well as outside on the terrace. We were welcomed by a friendly hostess who asked for our room number and if we preferred to sit inside our outside.

Given the opportunity to get a bit closer to mother nature, observing the mangrove’s wild live and being kissed by the sun, we chose to sit outside, left our keys and mobiles there and went back inside to discover the buffet.

While helping ourselves with the freshly squeezed juices and pastries, a Asian looking gentleman approached us to ask if we wanted any kind of eggs for breakfast.

We ordered scrambled eggs with him and continued to storm through the buffet.

When our plates were filled up and we went back to the table, we found our coffees as well as the eggs waiting for us already, and Linh, a gentleman from Vietnam, pulled the chair for us to sit down, while wishing us a good morning and a nice breakfast.

Not only Linh, but all of his colleagues had something special about them.

From the check in – to the check out – everyone, and we mean everyone was super friendly, assertive, paid attention to details, acted pro-active instead of waiting for guests to ask for them and one could actually feel that everyone working in this hotel enjoys the job.

It happened many times that we checked in somewhere or went for dinner and one or two of the service staff was either smiling or generally good with guests, but everyone in the entire hotel, that was something new and impressive.

We also went to the spa and for dinner on this day, but keep our experience and stories to ourselves until being revealed through another review.

Keep exploring,
