I had a one night stopover in Abu Dhabi on the way from UK to Australia. I booked this hotel before it had opened and got a cheap deal with breakfast (USD75) and they gave me a late checkout on a complimentary basis. As the previous review states, taxi drivers do not know it - I had a print out of the name, address and a google map, but they were still confused. In the end, I directed them which is ironic since I have only been to AD once before!! So have a clear map printed out.
I arrived at 2am and the reception was busy - only one person on duty. Once I was served, he was polite, but I did have to clarify that I had been offered a late checkout. Later on, I was called in my room at 2pm asking why I had not checked out; I again confirmed that the manager had arranged late checkout. And finally this was again questionned on checkout - so the service was a bit patchy; why didn't they check notes before disturbing me.
The hotel is in the middle of nowhere. As the weather was cooler, I walked to the Grand Mosque (1 hour) and taxied back. You could take a taxi to the Corniche. They do not have an airport shuttle, but taxis are cheap here - the airport is close and about USD 8 cost. If you want shops and restaurants close by don't stay here - it is in an area without anything but houses and a petrol station.
My room was a typical ibis room - comfortable and functional, but not luxury (you get what you pay for). The shower was good with strong water pressure. The TV was small and not many English channels (lots in Arabic as you would expect). I was disappointed by breakfast - pretty average selection.
The pool is shared with the sister Novotel next door; I was told that I would have to pay AED 50 to use the pool - this seems odd as I have never stayed anywhere where in-house guests pay to use the pool.
There is free wifi that worked well throughout the hotel.
Overall, I was happy with my stay, but I was only there for a night and have been to Abu Dhabi before - I recommend this for a cheap stopover, but if you want to explore and stay longer, I think an option nearer the centre would suit better.
