“Quick business trip”
Reviewed June 17, 2014 via mobile

Easy to find, high class rooms and excellent customer service ensured a stress free overnight business trip to Abu Dhabi. Had a good meal in Flooka and a great choice at breakfast in Ingredients. Didn't have time to check out much else so maybe on another visit!
Although I spotted that you could kayak in the mangroves which sounded interesting!

This hotel is the perfect setting for a relaxing get away. The pool is great with plenty of shade. Restaurants have extremely high quality food. Only negative comment is that some of the staff were not so friendly, but this was only the minority.

We had an amazing stay in the hotel over the weekend. Hotel is beautiful, which most of the hotels in ME are. But this hotels beauty get enhanced by its staff. From Front Deck, Concierge, HK, F&B Service, Chef all had smile on there face. I have never come across such amazing Life guards on Duty. At 45 degrees, they were smiling at each & every guest. Giving them cold towels. Hat off!!!
Service is good. Food is nice too. Just that Kids menu, should have more options. Pool Deck should have Kids menu. It gets easier for mums.

Rooms, Beds are quite bad. In the middle of the night, if your partner moves. It feels like an earthquake. Management, pls change your beds. The glass partition between the bathroom & room can be disturbing in the night. I liked the sofa its pretty cosy.

We were given a Mangrove facing room & Its so beautiful & quite. Thank you Anantara.

Room Tip: Mangrove facing rooms.

Thoroughly enjoyed our weeks stay here. We stayed in a room overlooking the mangroves and watched the beautiful sunset in the evenings. The hotel is opulent and luxurious as expected in a 5* hotel in this region.

We visited the rooftop bar but found it quite smoky. This is the norm in the UAE whereas in Europe we have enjoyed smoke free bars for many years.

The restaurant staff were excellent, immaculately presented, attentive and friendly. We were often eating breakfast approaching the close of service at 10.30 (we were on holiday!) and the waiting staff did not clear anything away until they had checked if we wanted more.

Special thanks to our room attendant who managed to restore our room to perfection every day. (We did a 'little' shopping on our trip and my daughter is the most untidy person ever!)

Would have no hesitation staying here again.

We had excellent stay at Eastern Mangroves. The location is next to highway, about 10mins from city by taxi but on the other side of the hotel is sort of mangroves :)

+ location
+ excellent room, we had room at the seaside - so didnt get sunshine to balcony but instead avoided highway / parking lot view
+ friendly and professional staff
+ good spa & treatments
+ facilities & amenities
+ pool and pool staff great
+ clean

- congierce didnt really know a thing
- sometimes bit of a hassle to get a taxi from hotel
- food wasnt at 5 star level (buffet slight disappointment)

overall great stay and would easily return if returning to AD

Room Tip: sea side: shadow highway side: sunny

This five star hotel does not disappoint. Do try to get a room with a view of the Mangroves though for the full experience. All the rooms have exceptional facilities and attention to detail. Beautiful bathrooms and you want for nothing. All the communal interiors smack of cool modern chic with a nod to the traditional. Incredibly airy spacious. The outdoor infinity pool and lounging area is outstanding with pool staff willing to help you enjoy the experience and be comfortable in every way. We only had three days here at the end of our honeymoon in the Maldives, but it was well worth it. The bed was the most comfortable and huge I have ever slpt in. As we were bed and breakfast we did not sample the restaurants, but we know they would have been world beating, if the breakfast was anything to go by. They obviously have world class chefs preparing the food and you simply could eat every type of food from around the world for breakfast in the most enormous luxury dining area which was simply the size of a cathedral!!

You can also take your breakfast outside if you, like me enjoy the heady heat and the perfumed smell of the mangroves. Every time we entered the large reception area there were a team of staff ready to help us in any way, hailing cabs, ready to give tourist info and book trips etc. It is a 20 mi9nute drive to the centre of Abu Dhabi, but we were really pleased with our choice at it enabled us to sample the many different aspects of the culture, including the stunning Mosque, which is a must see only a ten minute drive from the hotel. Ferrari world is great fun and worth a visit as is the veiwing platform at Ethiad Towers. We also thoroughly recommend the Desert Rose Jeep Safari excursion, which includes a heart stopping drive over the dunes, camel ride, henna tattooing, belly dancing and a lovely BBQ followed by shisha pipes and looking at the stars.

Room Tip: Try to get a Mangrove/pool facing room.

A hotel in this market is about hospitality rather than accommodation; it's also about offering something special - luxury, perfectly delivered, in a unique atmosphere and style. While Anantara Eastern Mangroves is a perfectly competent hotel, I felt it lacked the attention to detail and ambience that you look for to celebrate an intimate special occasion (which is why I booked it). I probably notice this more because in the previous years its sister hotel, Qasr Al Sarab in The Liwa Oasis (UAE) and, above all, The Chedi in Muscat (Oman ) had provided those things in abundance. Generally everything at Anantara Eastern Mangroves works fine, the food is good, the staff are extremely personable and some of the service they provide is exceptional, the pool (although it would benefit from being a bit bigger) is fine, the leisure club is functional etc etc. The style of the place combines the grandiose with the business-like; the rooms (ours was 201) are sort of luxury-functional, the bars too, both lacking a bit of character. So, what didn't work as well as it should? On arrival there was confusion about whether our booking was confirmed (it was) or it whether it was wait list (it wasn't). Our mangrove kayaking reservation had been lost (fortunately we could re-book at the same time). When we got to the room we found the spacious balcony was spattered with sun-dried bird droppings and garnished with an enormous dead cockroach. Clearly the cleaners need better direction (I asked twice before the balcony was cleaned, the second time asking the cleaner directly). I never understand why so many hotels in this part of the world 'sell' the idea of a balcony, but then treat it with contempt - The Crowne Plaza, Muscat does the same in my experience. The balcony furniture was minimal (not as a style - there just wasn't much of it) and not the most relaxing, and the decoration was non-existent. All that said, the view across to the mangroves is great, if like me that's what attracted you to the place, and you can spot bird-life too. Another cleaning issue was that the hotel pool area, which should be immaculately clean first thing in the morning, was dusted with the debris of the day before - not much, but enough to make you aware it hadn't been properly cleaned in the morning. As regards service, even in the middle of the day, when other hotels would provide complementary water at the pool, Eastern Mangroves doesn't (although there are refreshing cold flanels). Finally, we had booked for a wedding anniversary. It's not that I expect anything for this, in fact I didn't even tell them until they asked me, but having established the reason for our stay you would expect that a hotel in this category is bound to acknowledge it with some gesture. Ironically, I notice the Eastern Mangroves didn't do this, because The Chedi and the Qasr Al Sarab had done so. Overall this is a fully functioning upmarket hotel - it just seems, for the leisure guest at least, to lack the star quality and attention to personal detail of others in its category.
