Reviewed March 17, 2013

We stay at a lot of 5* hotels in the UAE, and the Anantara Eastern Mangroves has the best staff we have ever experienced. The rooms are truly 5* - as nice a room as I have ever stayed in and the view over the mangroves is amazing. Sitting on the patio looking out sure relieved a lot of stress. The location is amazing close to everything- literally, but once you look out over the mangroves I felt like I was truly somewhere else.
My son and I rented a kayak and explored the birds and fish and crab of the mangroves, a great nature lesson for him. What a nice change from Dubai.
If you want to stay a REAL 5* and want to relax stay here!!!
And both breakfast and Friday brunch were as good as it gets.

Room Tip: Always overlook the mangroves!!!

Stayed here for 3 nights on a holiday. As we spent an extended time in Abu Dhabi, instead of staying in one hotel, we tried several (Capital Gate, Eastern Mangroves, Fairmont, Viceroy).

Room: Very clean, large and well designed. We had a balcony facing towards the street. On our last night we stayed in a balcony room facing the mangroves. Without a question the view to the mangroves is preferred about the street view, however, when comparing prices, we found the difference in mangroves room vs street view room quite steep. Unless you want to spend excessive amount of time on the balcony, you may want to consider enjoying the pool are of the Eastern Mangroves and safe some money on the balcony view (in addition, the mangroves look nice, but can’t be compared to sea view in any other place). Our biggest problem was the bathroom. Whilst the bathroom was large and clean, the water pressure and temperature adjustment was about the worst we experienced on any continent we stayed. One could not control the temperature and it went from cold to (very) hot within seconds. We have reported this 2 times but no one came to fix it. Only on the third report someone looked into it. Unfortunately without success. The (friendly and professional) manager changed us to another room, where the same problem existed.

Facilities: Beautiful hotel, wonderful decoration inside and outside. The restaurants, large hallways, reception, all looks great and really makes you feel you are (and of course you are!) in a luxuous, relaxing resort. Whilst the pool area is on the small side, we never had issues finding a place to sit.
Location: By taxi it takes only 10-15 minutes to the Abu Dhabi mall. Taxi to Mushrif mall takes only 5 minutes. Even though the Eastern Mangroves is not in Abu Dhabi centre, it is no problem at all.

Reception/Staff: Everyone was very friendly and professional. The manager in the breakfast area was very kind and professional.

Breakfast: A very large breakfast place, tasty food, and by far the best fresh pressed juice selection we experience in the Middle East. We enjoyed the breakfast every morning again and each time something new could be discovered.

Overall: A real place to relax and escape from it all. Apart from the bathroom issue mentioned above, a wonderful place.

Week-end stay with family after a busy week of business. As all Anantara we´ve been to the decor and style is impeccable and really nice. High quality all over, but a few strange things that should certainly change to make this may preferred hotel in AUH. First of all compliments to the reception staff, great welcome and smooth check in. Lovely room, and we were given one with a great view of the mangroves. Location is great, very quiet and yet just a 10 min drive form the city centre. Quality of food really high. We agreed that their Thai restaurant was in fact the best we have ever experienced, counting in Thailand!
Now a few things that should change: service is extremely slow at both the pool deck restaurant and the Mangrove Lounge at the second floor. At the Mangrove service is almost lacking totally. We sat for about an hour without even seeing a waiter. In principle it is my belief that the staff should find their guests and not vice versa! Some of the staff at this hotel seems to wander about in a trance without noticing the reason they are there: their clients.
It is also strange in a hotel this caliber that all food outlets, less room service are closed after 11pm.
Finally, I advise that staff listen to what guests are saying. We had a bad experience at the Spa due to inability to adhere to our reservation. However, upon complaining the issue was dealt with swiftly and to our satisfaction.
I will try this hotel again on my next visit in April. I have a feeling they will meet my expectation then and this may easily turn into my new AUH favorite hotel.

Room Tip: As this was first stay in this pretty new hotel we can only say that the mangrove view room was sple...

The Spa was certainly the highlight of our stay. Restaurant - Thai was also really good. The Chef came out and chatted to all guests, made it a much nicer experience. Pool was good and nice to look out on the mangroves. Forgot our sun lotion, but sadly the pool staff didn't have any to give us, so we had to just cover up. But they had lovely gold towels and face spray!

Room Tip: Book a view over the mangroves
