“Very comfortable, Friendly staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 9, 2012

Since our office moved out in this area i needed to find a new place to stay. The Westin is new and not yet crowded so they offer very good rooms at nice rates outside Golf events and exhibitions , particularly in the summer (for now). Not a lot of people around this week, so almost empty bars and restaurants. very nice pool area but the gym is a bit away by the main golf club. For work and rest, the party is not here...

While the food was very good, beware of ordering from the grill. They charge above and beyond the already pricey buffet. No one said a word but when I got my check they had added the price for two orders from the grill. When I asked about that they said that yes it was extra. I suggested they post a sign or tell the guest when coming to eat. I am sure they will not take my advice, The service is fantastic but removing the grill from the picture down grades this place to average with high prices. I will not return. There are much better deals around Abu Dhabi especially the buffets which are a big Friday attraction, almost a tradition. We stayed the evening and the rooms are beautiful, overlooking the Abu Dhabi Golf course. The prices are within range of simular hotels in the area, but they offer specials to members of their club, which can make it a great get away. The hotel being new is a good deal, especially with their summer specials. Its well worth the money and I highly recommend this hotel, just beware of the buffet.

Room Tip: Summer months offer specials at all hotels here, never pay rack rate. I just stayed and paid 600 AED...

We had a few days simple R+R at the Westin in early June and were delighted with every aspect of the hotel. It is a new hotel - only 6 months or so old - but there seem to be no teething problems - meaning it achieved that perfect combination of clean, fresh, modern and yet also smooth, efficient and truely excellent service!

The staff are excellent. That is to be expected in a Westin, but these were truely excellent! What we particularly liked was that whilst they were ultra professional, as they got to know us and realised that we are quite human, they allowed their more human side to come out over and above their trained in professionalism. From the guy on reception who on first talking with him seemed like a quietly spoken individual, greeting us one evening with an excellent Roger Moore parady of the English which he kept up all the way as he escorted us to the lift - him keeping a straight face whilst we creased up with laughter. And Toby the egg chef at breakfast who had us trying all sorts of different omelletes from different parts of the world, going way beyond the call of duty in bringing us samples and challenging us to try new things!

Rooms are excellent - fairly normal modern 5* in style - lovely and no complaints at all but equally nothing to make us go wow! All have views over the golf course, excellent for us as golfers and pleasant enough for those who aren't.

We played golf - teeing off at 7 in the morning to avoid the worst of the heat. They had just gone to cheaper summer rates on 1 June which brought the prices down quite a bit but it is still very expensive - over £100 a round - but this included buggy, club hire etc. I have played courses that charge more than this and it has been an unpleasant experience - but here, the service continued to be excellent throughout - including the guy continuously riding the course with water and wet towels every 2-3 holes always with a kind word and a big smile. Necessary - by the last few holes we were drenched in sweat!

The location of the hotel is a little strange. Obviously it is here because this is where the golf course is and thats fine. It is a nice location and easy to get to - only 10 minutes or so from the airport. But there is nothing else here. It is 15-20 minutes drive to Yas Island, or 20-25 minutes drive into central Abu Dhabi and only an hour to central Dubai. So you can look at this 2 ways - you could either say the location is bad - there is nothing else nearby, OR you could say it is great - central to everything! We always hire a car when in UAE so for us it was great - but if you are without a car, then expect to do EVERY journey by taxi. Taxis are plentiful and not expensive so this shouldn't put you off - but worth consideration.

We have a couple of small moans. The hotel still insists on charging for WiFi which we think is so wrong! And prices for room service, drinks by the pool etc are very high. We expect to pay a premium at a hotel like this and dont mind doing so, but we felt the incidental prices here were excessive.

But overall, excellent in every aspect and we'd definately go back

Room Tip: All rooms overlook the golf courses - but if you really want to look over the 1st tee and 9 and 18 g...

I cannot speak highly enough of the service at the Western which is exceptional across the resort. Everyone speaks very good English, including the lifeguards by the pool and all of the serving staff. Everyone is clearly very proud of the hotel and bends over backwards to ensure the guests enjoy their stay.

I really liked most of the decor and furnishings in the hotel which strike a balance between modern aesthetic and extreme comfort - the beds are excellent. The pool area is lovely, although gets very busy with expat children on the weekend and so those who want peace and quiet are advised to move to the adult lap pool.

The food is very good throughout the hotel and the breakfast is excellent - there are plenty of healthy options but an eggs and pancake station for those who wish to indulge. It took me a few days to realise there was an a la carte menu as well as the buffets at lunch and dinner. The sports bar serves good burgers and the Lounge bar does an afternoon tea which looks wonderful. We enjoyed dinner at the Moroccan restaurant very much although the music does slightly spoil the tranquility by the pool in the early evening.

I really enjoyed my time on the golf course - there's a great pro shop and for those who aren't up for playing a full round (in the summer it is really very hot), you can borrow clubs and have unlimited balls all day on the very good driving range for AED100. Night golf is very popular and there is a really fun atmosphere in the evening, although the driving range does get busy. The changing rooms in the golf club are very pleasant and there are lots of golf buggies to use - during the middle of the day staff are a bit scarce on the course but are very helpful and willing to give advice. Beware of flies on the course and by the pool - insect repellant is advised (it would be helpful if there was some available from the pool attendants) and you should be careful opening your balcony door as the flies bite.

I was bemused that there wasn't an information guide in the room and was not able to obtain one from the concierge - the information that one would typically find in a binder is actually available on the TV as an electronic guide. This should be pointed out to guests as it does make it easier to plan one's stay.

It really was a wonderful trip and I really hope to visit again soon.

Had the opportunity to spend a weekend away at this hotel and what a nice surprise it was. The hotel was very nice, the staff was super attentive (Jelena was great all the way through our stay), nice view over the golf course, the food at the restaurant was great too (lots, variety, healthy options, epicurean options too), the room was spacious and well appointed. The location of the hotel is away from the city so great for relaxing but also not too far (only 15min. drive in a cab) - we were within a reasonable driving distance to everything we needed (airport/city/yas island). The spa was a little disappointing because it had no water features (Jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, etc) but I would definitively recommend it. Overall it was a really good experience.

Room Tip: We had a view to the golf course

Dear ms11af,

Thank you so much for having chosen to stay at The Westin Abu Dhabi Golf Resort & Spa. From your comments it seems you had a thoroughly enjoyable time with us. As you say, we have an excellent team in the hotel which is our greatest asset. As well as that, we have a prime location overlooking the Abu Dhabi Golf Course which is truly relaxing. We also benefit from the fact that we are an integral part of the Golf Resort, therefore, despite our Heavenly Spa not having a Jacuzzi, the Abu Dhabi Golf Club is just a short buggy-ride away where you are able to access such features. We are glad that you will recommend the hotel and sincerely hope to be able to welcome you back in the near future.

This is a golf resort. I don't play golf. However, my stay here this week was really enjoyable. I have no real complaints with the hotel, the service or the room - all are excellent and not really at all "golfy", if you don't want it to be.

Everything you would expect from Westin 5 star accommodation is here and the rooms are really excellent - well fitted, roomy and clean. There is a pool and a gym which is at the nearby golf club but thats only a buggy ride away.

My only complaint was about the Fairways Restaurant which suffers from three common problems - a lack of hot plates to put your food on from the buffet, the presence of some rather surly staff and a breakfast chef that can't cook eggs properly. Don't get me wrong - its a fine everyday restaurant but the three problems niggle and spoil what would otherwise be a nice experience.

Having said all this, I would stay again and thats about the best recommendation I can give.

Room Tip: Get a Premier room - they are much better. Stay off season - the rates are better.

Dear CTC Traveller,

Thank you for sharing your opinion with us on Trip Advisor. It is great to hear that you would love to stay with us once again as this is a sign that you were happy with your overall experience at The Westin Abu Dhabi Golf Resort & Spa. As you well say, the hotel caters for all different types of guests, not only those who are passionate golfers. We try to adapt our services to the needs and preferences of each individual that chooses to stay with us. From your comments, it appears that you were not completely satisfied with your experience at Fairways. This surprises us greatly as we have been receiving outstanding reviews of the venue. We apologise that it did not live up to your expectations, however, we are confident that when you choose to return, you will have a much more positive buffet experience.

We stayed here for four nights in March 2012 - the hotel is very modern with excellent facilities. The food was good, the staff were very helpful and friendly and the bedroom was spacious and comfortable. The hotel is about a 20 minute drive from the center.
