“9 Days in Abu Dhabi”
Reviewed March 11, 2014

The hotel complex is first class every staff member was courteous and polite and seemed to be very well trained on serving the customer.

A good location with an average 20/25 minute taxi ride to get to various locations in the City.

Don't let this put you off the costs of taxis are very reasonable.

The Restaraunts in the hotel were very good a choice of four which gave you a very varied choice.

Outside of the hotel there are many fine eateries we ate in Hakkasan, Bice and Pearls &Caviar would highly recommend all of these.

Room Tip: Try to get a sea view room on the 6/7th floor

Have just returned from a fabulous long weekend and loved every second of our stay at this gorgeous resort!

Pros: Superb white sandy beaches and clean, clear open ocean. The pools are heated slightly at this time of the year (as the sea is still chilly) and the temperature is just perfect for cooling off after tanning. The infinity pools are just gorgeous and the adult pool and bar is secluded and quiet, perfect for some quiet time, with cute in pool sun loungers and jacuzzi sections and private cabanas.

Delicious clean food offered in all restaurants, had some issues with reserving tables at times though, but would recommend going down to the bar and then waiting for a table as one nearly always opens up within 10 minutes of being there. There are also restaurants just outside of the hotel and a supermarket, should you wish to dine outside of the hotel and not have to venture all the way into town.

Our room was large and well appointed with a very comfortable bed with pristine white high quality linens, huge bathroom (double sink vanities) and an enormous soaking tub. Good quality complimentary products. The butler will provide you with as many bottles of water, cups of tea/coffee at any time, complimentary and quickly. The views out over the ocean were stunning and our balcony was large enough to enjoy breakfast privately, outdoors. Sublime.

I want to say a special thanks to our Butler, Barry, who provided a super efficient service, with a beautiful cake on my birthday and always stocked extra hair conditioner in the bathroom- as he considered my long hair! Another special thanks to the gentleman who found my husbands phone on the beach after we had returned to our room, located and delivered safely within 10mins- fantastic!

Things that could be improved: the pillows, although of superior quality were very hard, so perhaps a pillow menu or choice of softer pillows would greatly aid the comfort of some guests.

Whilst there are showers next to the pool areas, there isn't a shower on the beach for rinsing off after swimming.

The beach side restaurant stops serving lunch at 3, which is quite early I thought... So either extend the lunch hours or add more dishes to the poolside/beach menu to better suit those late lunchers.

The activities, such as the great gold course, kids club, leisure centre weren't well indicated and looked great, so perhaps show that off more.

We would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to couples or families looking for a quality hotel, away from town, for a quieter getaway straight on the beach.

Went for a weekend get away with the husband and we had a wonderful time, service great, food offering in terms of variety in the restaurants great, our particular favourite was Turquoiz, liked the modern 50's styling and lovely cocktails especially the Bloody Marys. Our only complaint which we didn't realise the first night is we didn't realise we had to book a table in the restaurants as they get pretty booked up, this we thought should have been mentioned on checking in so we ended up in the buffet restaurant which was fine but just not what we wanted to do.

Who would have thought that Abu Dhabi would ever become a resort destination? But it is, gradually and it is because of a resort like the St. Regis on Saadiyat Island. This is a tasteful, grand but understated and very elegant hotel with beautifully appointed rooms and superb butler service. The beaches are wonderful and the facilities and superb. The food is good, but doesn't measure up to the Shangri La. The beds are wondrously comfortable and the bathing areas are stunning with deep, deep tubs and a massive drench shower room. A very, very nice place to stay.

The resort is in a beautiful location and the views are awesome; rooms are beautiful. Unfortunately though, the poor service standards are not typical of a St. Regis property at all! Probably the hotel is under staffed or probably the staff are not well trained.

I travel the world and have stayed in some of the best hotels, but the experience here was disappointing! Had some of the worst Thai food at the Thai restaurant in the hotel! Waiters at the Olea restaurant didn't know what Caffe Latte was!

Also, it was a group of us and we all share the same feedback.

As someone who's been in the Travel Industry for some 35yrs now, I've been fortunate enough to see & stay in some spectacularly beautiful Hotels over the years, and feel qualified to add a few words here after our stay at the St Regis Saadiyat last week.

When deciding which of the many Abu Dhabi top Hotels we wanted to stay at for our 5nts, and there are many, we felt that the full 'On-Beach' experience was what would make it for us, and thus chose the St Regis. On top of that, the proximity of the Saadiyat Beach Golf Club was a big draw, as its location surrounds the Hotel & grounds.

We arrived at 8.30am, knowing full well that our Rooms would perhaps not be ready, which proved the case, but was of no issue, as after checking in, the Hotel staff took us to their facilities so that we could change into beachwear, and we took in some breakfast before crashing out by the Pool, and awaited a call from the staff when our rooms were ready.
That didnt take long, and by lunchtime, we had our keys, perfect.

The Rooms are fabulous, - all the same, with or without Sea View, - we had one, which was super, but as the Hotel faces North West, means that you get very little, if any sun, on your Balcony. No big deal for us.
On the 'land' side of the Hotel, which our friends room was, a lot more sun reached their terrace, so bear this in mind perhaps if sun is your preference.

The bedrooms are gorgeous, Beds are uber comfy, and the Bathrooms are huge, with a tall Window that lest in loads of natural daylight, which is a real change and bonus. - Automated roller blind to close if you needed, 2 Basisn etc, and a simply superb Rain Shower in the Middle, - oh, and a DEEP Bathtub for any of you that feel the need to soak.
As well as all that, every conceivable amenity and lotion is provided too, and replenished all the time.

So - after 5nts in the Saadiyat, what can I say ?

Service : Impeccable. From the 'In Room' Butler Service, to the Lobby Staff, to the Pool attendants, to the Restaurant staff, - all fantastic, all eager to help, and very courteous. Sure, some excelled, some were seemingly newer than others, but we had absolutely no issues in any respect.
The 'Butler' service is fantastic...... need Ice in your room - call the Butler. Need Milk for the Coffee machine......call the Butler. Need a Rservation .......call the......you get the idea. Its all free, and very quick indeed, and although our natural instincts said we might find it all a bit embarrassing, we didnt, the staff were superb.

2 Pools - one Main one, and one 'Adult' - which has a Bar area too. No problem at all finding space to lay, and excellent service from staff if you needed a drink - in fact they provided a refreshing iced lemonade as soon as we sat down, which was a nice touch.
Water was a lovely temperature too, very refreshing, and far from too cold to go in.

Beach - absolutely lovely, very spacious, beautiful sand, and sea is an Aqua Blue that you cant describe, - and its a big beach too - we walked to the nearby Park Hyatt Hotel, and to get there, and back, was an hour, and we could have gone on and on from there........
Beds on the beach are excellent, all with Towels, and all with a super Waietr service for whatever you might need, really couldnt fault it.

Restaurants:
Olea: - As well as being the main Breakfast venue, this is also an 'All Day Dining' Restaurant too - and although we didnt use it during the day, we did Dine on 2 evenings here.
The Breakfast is simply unbeleivable, - you name it, its available. Cereals, Breads, Fruits, Omelette's, all manner of hot items, Yoghurts, etc etc etc...... even Duck & Salmon. Fresh Juices provided, even a 'Juice Station' so you can have your own mixed, quite an unbelievable selection.
Plus - as well as the usual Tea & Coffee, the staff would even bring you a nice Latte if thats what you'd prefer, which I did, frequently :-)

In the evening, Olea provides a set priced Buffet choice, - which many steer clear of, and initially, we might have done too. But when you see the selection & quality of Food on offer, its hard to ignore, and was absolutely fantastic.
Asian Food, Carvery, Fish selection, Arabic, as well as more Starters & Salad's than you can imagine, and not to mention the Desserts and Cheese selections too - all unbelievable value in all honesty, and you're hard pushed to choose.

Sontaya: Described as an 'Asian Fusion' Restaurant, Sontaya was beautiful. Fabulous setting, and simply gorgeous food and ambiance.

Turquoiz : The Hotels Seafood restaurant, and again, lovely. The four of us couldnt resist the Surf & Turf, and all without exception, said our Steaks wers cooked to perfection.

Sure - in a 5* Hotel, this Dining doesnt come cheap, but such are the issues of staying in top class 5* Hotels. Plus - as is often the case, its the Wine & Alcoholic Drinks that boosts the bill so much, so be careful on that score and it might seem much more reasonable.

I've read a lot of the other reviews on here of the Saadiyat, and as is always the case, it strikes me that many people seem hell bent on finding some fault somewhere, and over petty issues.

The only other Hotel I saw whilst in Abu Dhabi was an obligatory trip to view the renowned Emirates Palace Hotel, which, if I am completely and utterly honest, I hated.
Big, Brash, Bold, and without an ounce of sophistication or soul, or that 'all embracing' feeling of 'welcome'ness', which on returning to the St Regis Saadiyat, we all immediately commented on.

I feel sure that presently, for Beach Front Position, the St Regis Saadiyat is THE place to be in Abu Dhabi, - Maybe we were lucky, who knows, but all I can say is that personally, I wouldnt hesitate to return to the St Regis Saadiyat, - in fact, I cant wait to do exactly that !
