“Shouldn't be missed”

The Grand Mosque should be on everyone's to-do list in Abu Dhabi. You can visit as a non-muslim Saturday-Thursday away from prayer times, and it's well worth the experience.

On the negative side, many women get upset at the way they are treated by the guards and if you're showing too much skin will have to ask someone else to pick up an Abaya for you before you can get to the mosque.

Don't forget to view the building after dark from the mainland from the Shangri-la hotel!

“Beautiful, must see site in either Dubai or Abu Dhabi”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 17, 2010

The Sheikh Zayed Mosque is a must see if you are in the region. The Mosque is still under construction, but this does not take away from the beauty which already exists. The stone work is amazing with incredible detail using all sorts of marble and granite. You will have to remove your shoes if you are a male, and women will have to cover up, as per Muslim law, but these are minor details. The Mosque is open to everybody and has to be seen to be believed.

“Must see if visiting Abu Dhabi”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 11, 2010

The Sheikh Zayed Mosque should be number one on your list of things to do if visiting Abu Dhabi.

Tours are free and start from 10am our guide was friendly and extremely knowledgeable in explaining the history of the Mosque and explaining Islam with patience to those in our group who were not Muslim.

We are a Muslim couple and still found the tour very interesting, learning about the construction of the Mosque and influences and materials from countries around the world.

The sheer size and beauty can not be appreciated just from photos, Sheikh Zayed Mosque cant be missed.

“Amazing !!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 18, 2010

A must see in Abu Dhabi - we had a taxi organised from our hotel, and it is best to get your driver to wait for you while you are visitng the mosque and he then takes you back to your hotel or anywhere else that you want to go, and it was not expensive. Our driver was most courteous and helpful. It was about a 20 min drive from our hotel. We (myself and two daughters) had to put on the black dress and headscarf even though we had dressed very conservatively. with long sleeves and long trousers. That was fitting to where we were though. You also have to take your shoes off to walk around inside the mosque (prayer halls). The carpet is amazing! We managed to get on a tour (just joined on to one) and that was very informative. The tour was at 11am as it was Ramadan when we were there. The building is spectacular and the inlaid marble and the chandeliers are incredible. The grounds are still being worked on so it will be spectacular when they are all finished. It was a truly wonderful experience and the guide was very informative. Thoroughly recommended.

“Beautiful, a MUST see!”

You will be blown away as soon as you take off your shoes and enter this peaceful place of worship. Best way to do it; get a tour by one of the guides, they will be able to explain everything, from each type of material used to build the mosque, to the carpets and chandeliers located around the mosque. You can even ask the guides about Islam and their culture. Tour guides are very knowledgeable and are a must to fully enjoy the beauty of the mosque.
