White impresses, the beauty, the detail of the rug, Murano chandeliers , refinement, details of greatness. Not to be missed when visiting Abu Dabhi

I have never entered a mosque, but for a 1st time, this was a great tour. The mosque is some fine piece of archicture. It is a 1st in many ways, guiness book of records for heaviest chandelier, which happens to be gold, and largest singe piece of carpet.
It was a great insight into Islam and Martha particularly who was our tour assistant and entertained all sorts of questions made it all more interesting. Its a must visit even if you have a different religious inclination...
Make sure you go during the guided tour (4-5pm) its makes it more interesting and more appreciative.

Quite hard to get to if driving solely but worth it when you get there. Check out website for dresscode. Arrive early. Parking plentiful. Take a charged camera but a large memory stick!

I just visited Sheikh Zayed Mosque as a last minute decisions but glad I went. It is enourmous and beautiful. We took a cab there, which is a very cheap way to get around Abu Dhabi. Just remember it is a mosque and dress respectfully, a few westerners were not. There are some English speaking tours, we were let for the last one, but would probably be worth catching.

The mosque is a must-see when visiting Abu Dhabi. Taste differs and the mosque is in my opinion a bit too much; would have been more spiritual with a few decorations less. However, the size of the building and the richness in materials used, details etc etc is indeed impressive. How about the worlds biggest handwoven carpet and biggest chandelier, and all the inlays of flowers in multicolored marble and semi precious stones in floows, walls and columns?! A guided tour is recommended, they are free of charge and at the time of writing held at 10 and 11 am (not Fridays). The guides are knowledgeble and sympathetic and will tell you a lot about the construction of the mosque and the symbolism used, as well as about the religios practise.
