Absolutely historic experience. This is not to be missed on any account and make sure your visit coincides with one of the guided tours. A fascinating and eye opening introduction to the Islamic religion and customes by some of the most hospitable people you could ever meet. This should be a compulsory part of everyone's visit to UAE. This was a 2.5 hour visit but a full day would have been well spent on this. The Shangri La hotel which is located across the bay offers spectacular views of the Mosque and has a shuttle bus service for guests which will take you to it. Wonderful experience and eye opening.

Nothing like it...truly a visual masterpiece to be seen from many angles, distances, and times of day.

Collect a free, clean abaya and sheila and join a group to enjoy the guided tour. Men need to be respectfully dressed.
Remove your shoes to walk on the vast and beautiful outdoor mosaic inner quadrangle. Cool enough to walk on because of it's marble mosaic construction.
Proud, well spoken and informative, helpful Emirati guides point out all the amazing features.
It is free to go and free to enjoy for as long as you want. Afterwards you return your abaya etc to be cleaned.
Closed only on some prayer days and times. From the city you can get there on the number 32 and other buses, takes about 35 minutes for only 1 Dirham, or a taxi for about 20 Dirham.
At night it's stunning shapes are floodlit in hues of white to dark blue in sync with the waxing and waning of the moon.
The gardens are still being laid out and will be impressive.

When in Dubai or Abu Dhabi, you simply must go and see the beautiful Sheikh Zayed Mosque. It is such a calm and peaceful place. The intricacy of the designs and mosais inside are just lovely.

Abu Dhabi during our recent visit has very little going for it given the large scale road and building reconstructions underway.
HOWEVER, a chance visit to the Sheik Zayed Mosque as part of a day tour of the Emerate revealed its jewel. This is a truely beautiful building with crisp whire marble lines gleaming against the deep blue sky. As magnificent as the exterior is with the multi domed upper works, the interior is probably even more spectacular.
It is a mosque which has reputedly cost $B1 to date and is still incomplete but what there is (and it seems very close to complete) to money exceptionally well spent. There is marble and crystal, mosaics etc from all parts of the world set together in almost perfect harmony.
Yes this is a mosque but it is freely accessable to the public, and there are guided tours which are given free. These are great for gaining an insite into this beautiful building dedicated to the Islamic faith.
One does not need to be a believer in the Islamic, or any other faith for that matter, to simply admore what is on show.
