I did not stay in the hotel, but combined the Palace tour (call ahead to book a tour) with a ballet performance that was held in the Auditorium. Well, this IS a Kempinski property, which pretty much sums it up. There is gold and there are crystals in everything you see. Fantastically trained multilingual service staff, manicured grounds, rich textures and colors create an atmosphere of royal treatment for royal customers. The tour was good, it cost 100 AED per person and included a tea afterwards. You get to see a lot more on a tour, all the while wishing you can stay in the hotel for some time as a guest. The auditorium is very comfortable with good acoustics and of course, a rich gold and crimson interior. What surprised, though, was below-the-average buffet food better suited not for the Kempinski property but a cheap movie theater with people munching on popcorn and hamburgers not only during the intermission but also during the ballet performance (this is definitely the fist one for me in 40 years of going to classical performances).
