“Smells of Years”
Reviewed December 12, 2013

In this huge mosque, everybody can feel and smell the years and years of old but still strong ages.

The mosque is in a very good shape and even non-muslim can enter into it. Even women can cover their heads and enter into it.

It's surrounded by cafes and restaurants and gifts shops.

“Umayyad Mosque Damasus”
Reviewed November 16, 2013

This mosque is amazing and I stayed in it a very long time. It is spectacular. I just hope that it is not being damaged by civil war in Syria. It would be a great shame if it was damaged. I took some wonderful photographs in the mosque which showed the people as shadows. I would always love to return to it and to look again at all of its history. It will be well worth a visit when it is possible.

“A world class treasure”
Reviewed November 7, 2013

A very important monument with outstanding mosaics. Essential to visit.
I hope it will survive. We were there just as the troubles began in Damascus April 2011, and we would love to go back.

“Stunning and historic”
Reviewed October 23, 2013

I haven't been to many mosques, and this was my first visit to any mosque anywhere. It was a masterpiece. It was lucky that I went as part of my uni class's annual trip with the chairman of our department who is an art historian, so he knew all the details. But the layers of history and artistry are just stunning.
