Communication was a problem - I contacted the hotel directly (by phone) to book, was given a deal inclusive of taxes and charges - 545 euro for 4 nights, B&B for 2 people, one double room. This was never confirmed by email as I requested. I confirmed the price the day before arrival. On arrival, late at night, we were given a room on the 9th floor the 'VIP' floor - 185 euro per night B&B excluding taxes.A lot of negotiation was required to get the price that was agreed on by phone. Some rooms are exposed to more noise.Room size was OK. Clean linen, room and bathroom.Reception staff were not very helpful.
Pool area on 3rd floor - quiet, poolside service, poor. Would recommend only with warning.

Do yourelf a favor and save your money. Cham Palace is no where near 5 star; it is more like 3 stars. Rooms are small, beds are worn out, as well is carpeting. Bathrooms are cracked up, with water leaks..smell is bad. Will never stay ther. Buffet food quality and presentation are bad. Spend few more and stay at Four Seasons, or one of old market new boutique hotels. I hear that Blue Tower is good, even Le Meridian which has been there for ever are all better deal.

We were not booking for this hotel at first but somehow, the Four Seasons were fully booked, so we got to take this hotel as our shelters.
The room was clean and OK but still there were something little about the restroom and breakfast that we still think they could have made it better.
The staffs were fairly supportive but don't expect much than usual.
Location was good. No proper parking.
Do not have wireless internet in room.
Lobby has beautiful chair seatings

The picture of the Cham Palace Hotel lobby was always for me the picture of Syria , because i saw it in every brochure about Syria.
I stayed in the hotel for 5 days ,my stay at the hotel was really great , the hotel itself is a destination ,
The food is EXCELLENT and myself,, a real gourmet was always asking the chefs about the recipes ,and they were always ready to give me their cooking secrets (are they?).
the most amazing rstaurant the rotating restaurant on the top floor, you could see Damascus from top, really spectacular.
The stuff was very friendly and willing to help anytime , especially miss Rola Zaza (reservation department) who made my stay really enjoyable and affordable.
The lobby is a real architectue jewel with a cristal chandelier hanging from the ceiling , and a marble mosaic fountain in the center , and greenery hanging down from the mezanines that sourround the lobby .
In the morning , i would love to read my newspaper and surf the net in the lobby , and in the evening watching the tourist coming and going and the damascene scenery strolling:,weddings ,social events ,conferences , and the best thing that happened to me when i met Jamal Sleiman ,a famous syrian actor ,the real highlight of my trip.

Went there after visiting Jordan's Marriott Dead Sea Spa Resort.
The impression I had after my visit to this hotel is the one you have when you visit a luxury hotel in the first place and then you have to go to a village guest house.
The Hotel was meant to be a five star hotel but it is very very overrated. I could personally give no more than 3 stars to this hotel. The rooms at this hotel are of a very low status. Pillows were bad, the mattress was very soft (not for people with back problems), the bathroom was worst than the one I have to my apartment, the personnel did not speak English and last but not least for a pespi cola we were charged only 3,5 US dollars???!!!!! when a regular price to buy a pepsi from a nearby store was less than 0,5 US dollars. (same price we were charged for a tea).
One thing that was very disappointing was the fact that the mini bar was locked and when we asked why, the personnel told us that they had problems in the past with guests and the policy of the hotel is to lock the minibar and unlock it after guest's request. (no wonder why they had problems with this prices!).
What was good to this hotel was the last floor where you had the opportunity for a panoramic view of Damaskus.
What I finally think is that this hotel needs urgently a renovation and of course a new price policy for refreashers.

Stayed here for a short while giving a course in Damascus. Most certainly a stunningly beautiful lobby and reception full of inlaid marble and wood. The hotel expresses a sense of luxury typical of upmarket Arabic hotels, but it would certainly do with a little renovation as most of the beautiful woodwork (even inside the elevators) is showing signs of aging. Good rooms as well with large bathrooms. Breakfast is a bit limited even though the Syrian savoury pastries are divine, not to speak of the sweet pastries. A major highlight of this hotel is the rotating restaurant on top of the hotel - very good service, reasonably priced giving you a beautiful view of Damascus, the Barada Valley and the surrounding hills. The reception staff was not very approachable however, unlike that of the breakfast area or rotating restaurant.

The Cham Palace is well located in central Damascus. The lobby area is quite unusual and atmospheric. All of the male staff were friendly: however some of the women at Reception were positively rude, for some reason I did not understand. The rooms are comfortable and clean, although they could do with a bit of attention. The swimming pool was a boon. The standard of food was good, although one again had the impression that with a little more effort it could have been excellent. All in all, whilst it is somewhat strange to say about what is a big hotel, the Cham Palace has a certain charm which, added to its location, makes it worth staying in .
