“Excellent location, brilliant staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 27, 2011

We recently independently toured Syria for 2 weeks and can only rave about the place and its people. We saw no trouble what so ever and have never felt more safe. The location of Beit Akbik is perfect, on Straight street in old Damascus within walking distance of the major sights and adjacent to the Roman Arch.

A beautiful Damascene house with courtyard ,well maintained and clean with excellent staff in Marua and Corim (think this is how you spell it) Because of the political unrest we were the only guests at the hotel and just about the only tourists in Syria. Marua could not do enough to help and guide us and she really is a treasure. Our room was comfortable with traditional furniture and a small bathroom all spotless. Breakfast was included and we loved the jams, hummus and yoghurt. We would just say though that after 4 days it got a bit monotonous and a variation would have been appreciated. We were offered eggs but only on the first day and there was only flat bread. Some croissant or rolls would have been nice .

Syria is truly wonderful and we are so glad we went. The people are the most gracious, friendly and genuine that we have met on our many travels and we would love to return one day.

Everything in Beit Akbik Hotel is really excellent; people here serve you in a very friendly and proficient way at the same time. The breakfast was so delicious in this little courtyard. Our Room was very clean and very comfortable. They even organized a Tour for us to Aleppo with a very reasonable rate. I really love this Hotel and I strongly recommended to anyone.

We spent four nights at Beit Akbik and I would recommend it.

Overall I thought Damascus was rather expensive for hotels compared with the prices for food. However, we found Beit Akbik very well located where the Muslim, Christian and Jewish quarters meet in the old city. It was easy to walk to the souk, to the mosques and to the churches we wanted to see. Naranj the best restaurant in town was only a block away.

The staff were friendly and helpful.

We had a top floor room/suite, really lovely with outdoor terrace area, wasn't very sunny when we were there. I imagine it must be the business in hot Summer..
Staff are lovely, the room was beautiful but sadly we only got to spent a night there. We took a day trip with a driver hired by the hotel, called Joseph. I would recommend asking for him, he was an extremely nice guy, clearly very intelligent and he gave us a great insight into live in Syria, the good and the bad.... very interesting, and very obliging but then the whole of Syria are too. Lovely, dignified people who are very genuine in their friendship. Anyway, enough digression.. this hotel is a very nice place to stay, and ask for Joseph the driver if you need a tour !

This hotel offered everything we had hoped for. Friendly service, great decor and history with modern conveniences. Loved the little courtyard for the delicious breakfast each morning where we could linger before our day's outing. Our bedroom had several windows- one looking onto the courtyard and another little one which overlook the laneway. It was a glorious start to the day to hear the call to prayer, see the sun rise and people start their day. The lovely young receptionist ( sorry forgot her name) helped organise a car for our travels to Krac and Aleppo and this young guy was excellent.

This mansion converted to a hotel is convenient for walking to anywhere in the old city, and is right across the street from what is probably the best restaurant in town, the Naranji. We were warmly received with a glass of juice even at 1:00 a.m., given a chance to look at two rooms and choose our preference, and offered a breakfast at whatever late hour we wished the next morning. Our checked baggage did not arrive, and the front desk made numerous phone calls to track it, and arranged a car to the airport at a reasonable price for us to pick it up when it finally appeared two days later. As first-time visitors to Syria, we could not have asked for a better place to launch our sightseeing. Beds were very comfortable and the bathroom nicely arranged in a small space. With only 8 rooms, it is not always available, but if you can stay here, seize the opportunity.
