I booked this hotel for a two-week trip I was taking with friends through Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon. We especially wanted a good place in Damascus because we'd be staying there for New Year's Eve. I'd read the great reviews and had high expectations--and I was not disappointed!
From the moment of our arrival, when we were greeted by Mustafa like long-lost relatives, to the incredible lobby and decor throughout the hotel (mother of pearl inlay, stain glass...the stain glass shower wall in my bathroom alone was a work of art!), excellent breakfast, and overall hospitality couldn't be beat. I had second thoughts after booking, wondering if I should have booked us in the Old City, but this hotel was just a short walk, and the Old City is so crowded and such a maze that we were glad we stayed where we did.
Mustafa recommended the perfect restaurant for our New Year's celebrations, made us reservations, changed money for us at the bank rate, and also found us a reliable driver/guide for our travels on to Palmyra and the Krak des Chevaliers--and excellent, safe, dependable driver who was able to find us alternate transportation when my friend got sick and we decided to head to Beirut instead of back to Damascus.
Thank you City Hotel! I couldn't recommend this hotel highly enough--and hope I'll be back!More
