We stayed for three nights in this hotel, my first impression was great, decorations are just special, i like it, and rooms were decorated nicely too, but rooms are too small and stuffed with furniture which double room doesn't give space for two people to pass, it is frustrating, is a bit too noisy at night, and bathroom sealing was so low, i'm not tall and i felt i'm touching the sealing with my head, for 100$ a night could be better, internet was free but frustrating 90 % of pages and emails couldn't open at all because of bad speed and restrictions, and location is a bit too far from old city. Breakfast was in Syrian stile, which was interesting but not that amazing. Well i can say that hotel is good but too pricey for what you get.

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Al-Madinah hotel for four days and from start to finish we feeled very welcome and in safe hands. The staff is very friendly and really helpfull giving you restaurant tips, ATM locations, directions, trip suggestions and names written in Arabic for in case a taxi driver doesnt understand you. The rooms are clean and the bedroom is simply amazing(same style as the lobby, wooden inlay art), our room had a bathtub and a new TV with premium international channels. The location is perfect, you can walk to the old town in 5 minutes. And last but not least, the breakfast is authentic and very diverse.

We stayed at City Hotel at the end of october. It was located 15 minutes from the old city and it has free parking for the car, just in front of it.
The hotel was beautifully decorated and furnished so that it is not very much difference between the hotel and the Syrian Palace Azem, so I think it really deserves to have more than 3 stars.
We were pleased about the accomodation, the restaurant, and all the staff that was extremely helpful in planning the route to visit.
We really thank Tarek and Thaer for how they treated us.

We spent five nights here in total - 4 at the start of the holiday and 1 at the end.
The hotel is well appointed with friendly English speaking staff. We felt very welcome.

The location may not be ideal for some - a 15 minute walk from the old town - but was fine for us - A definite recommendation.

I travel a lot for work and for pleasure. I have never reviewed a hotel before but the City Hotel really deserves a recommendation.

The management team speak excellent English. They and their staff were extremely courteous, considerate and straightforward. The rooms were comfortable and immaculately clean. The hotel is within easy walking distance of the Old City and a few hundred yards from the Craft Souk, the National Museum and the city's only Western style restaurants around the Four Seasons Hotel.

On the down side the immediate area around the hotel is not as attractive as that around some of the boutique hotels in the Old City. And the public areas are limited to the breakfast/dining room and reception/lounge.

Because of this we thought that we might split our stay in Damascus and treat ourselves to a couple of nights in a much more expensive boutique hotel at the end of our visit. After three nights at the City Hotel we decided we were very happy to stay there for our whole trip.

We would stay there again and would happily recommend the hotel to friends and family.

The hotel is excellent value and although in the newer part of Damascus, it's well located between the national museum and the old town - only a few minutes walk from the souk. But definitely earns five stars for the very warm welcome from all the team, Tarek, Thaer and Mohammad, extremely friendly and helpful on all counts. Thank you all.
