Al-Madinah / City Hotel

The hotel is in a perfect location within walking distance from Old Town. We were a group of ten persons mixed of age staying in the Hotel Al-Madinah for 9 days. This review is on behalf of the whole group. Rooms are nice and clean and most with standard equipment. However, now still more rooms have been renouvered and refurnished in the traditional, charming arabic style. Also breakfast restaurant and reception area is in arabic style and encourages guests to just relax and enjoy. The best about the hotel is without doubt THE STAFF!! Always high-spirited, ready to serve you, and good for a joke. If you have a special request, they do not rest until the problem is solved. If you go to Damascus - stay at Al-Madinah!

Great Hotel , located in the center of Damuscus near the museum and the famous souks , excellent rooms with superb Damascian wooden style , Extra clean and the personnel are very helpful and charming .
The only draw back there is no restaurent in the hotel but there are some next to the hotel .
I would recommend this hotel to all travellers to Damauscus

This hotel is great value for money. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the service really top-notch. The location is really convenient -- the charms of the old city, the souks, National Museum are a short walk away (and we travelled with a 3 year old in buggy). The decor can be a bit in your face, but it is also painstakingly hand-crafted.
Small piece of advice -- the hotel does arrange taxis etc for you .. very convenient .. but quite a bit more expensive than if you had arranged yourself. But apart from this small criticism, I would highly recommend Al-Madinah.

We stayed at the Madinah Hotel (City Hotel) for 4 days at the start of our holiday and returned for one night at the end.

The staff were very friendly, helpful and always smiling, and the reception is beautiful, beautifully decorated and with the traditional Arabic wooden styles that get you started on your holiday in style.

Breakfast was good, homous, different types of jams and cheeses, and boiled eggs. The restaurant only serves lunch and room service consists only of drinks and nothing more.

The rooms are beautiful, if you are lucky enough to book and get a deluxe room on the 4th or 5th floors as these have been renovated to a good standard and also have the beautiful wooden carvings throughout. The rooms on the lower floors look dated and uninspiring and the experience of the hotel would've been completely different if we'd stayed in that hotel.

The location is brilliant, easy access to the Hamidieh Souq which leads directly to the mosque which everyone has to see. It is also within easy walking distance of New Damascus and another smaller souq.

Though from outside the hotel is uninspiring, looks can be deceiving!

Just make sure you stay in a deluxe room, the increase in price of about $5 is deffinately worth the quality improvements! And if you'r going for a twin room, try to get room 69, it has 2 single beds and a day bed which gives you that extra space you need, some of the other rooms are just the right size and if you're staying several days that can be cramped.

If I had to point out a negative it would be the lift, there's one lift and small and can be very hard to catch as the hotel is quite busy, going down the stairs is fine, until you have your luggage with you and you wait for 5 or more minutes to get the lift!

The hotel is very clean and nicely decorated in the traditional Syrian style, making the whole Syrian experience that much better! Locataion is again fantastic! Within walking distance to the Old Town, the National Museum etc. A must stay whilst in Damascus!

This hotel was a pleasant surprise, even after the previous positive TripAdvisor comments. The whole hotel, including the rooms, was decorated in opulent Arabian styling with all the trimmings. It was fantastic and added a real charm to the stay. There is a good sizeable breakfast included, along with free wireless internet and a location 10 minutes' walk from the Old City. The staff were, for the most part, very helpful. A definite winner, and amazing for the price.
