The Financial Times review says this restaurant would get three stars if Michelin were to rate restaurants in Damascus. That's incredible. The food is good, but in no way up to Michelin standards. The service is marginal. Nice old building, to be sure. One must wonder whether the FT reviewer has ever eaten in a Michelin starred restaurant! The Luluat el Sharq will be a much better restaurant, once it gets its staff sorted out. The restaurant isn't all that easy to identify. Its sign in Roman letters is high up on a building. Street level signage is all in Arabic.

The food was wonderful but service was so quick we felt they wanted us out as quickly as possible, because all our food basically arrived with the starters.

Situated in the Damascus Souk "El Hamadia"

In an old mid-eastern mansion with a beautiful courtyard, with a roof top terrace.

Service is attentive, food is delicious and plentiful, home made local bread is sublime.

Try the fresh fruit drinks!

No alcohol is served but don't let this deter you!

Great fixed menu during Ramadan!

We have had been visiting this restaurant with a group, as especially the nice location in the old town is very attractive.

The location is relatively big and smoking too our surprise ( waterpipe and cigartte )
is allowed ( signs are there for not smoking ).

The service is superb and any table has at least 2 waiter.

The food is very authentic and lots of specialities ( known and unknown ) are offered.
You have to try the Kebab Aleppo Style with Cherry Sauce, which was definately a highlight.

It is crowded in the evening and reservation is absolutely needed as otherwise no space will be granted for group of visitors.

We had some problems finding the restaurant as it's tucked way with no clear signage. Once inside we were impressed with the look of the place. We were sat in a side room from where we could see the hustle and bustle of the main dining room. We ordered a couple of different mezzes for starters. I had the aubergines stuffed with nuts and chilli. I hadn't appreciated quite how much chilli there would be. It was nice to try it but I think that I made the wrong choice. The main courses were fine but overall they were just standard syrian fayre. We were given some tasty syrian sweets to finish the meal which was a nice touch. The service was pretty efficient and the cost was about average for a decent Damascus restaurant. We would recommend it but more for the service and ambience than the food.
