This is an outstanding property located very close to the airport and that can either be an issue for some people or a real experience as the big jets fly over on take-off over the hotel and you get a good sight of the planes as they fly over! its an experience! But the hotel is excellent. From arrival the staff are very welcoming (and very well trained) almost to the point of it can get annoying but you cant fault how welcoming they are. The decor is beautiful, the rooms are very spacious as is the hotel space in general. Excellent breakfast. This is a great place to do business or leisure. There are alot of facilities. My only complaint is the WIFI in the rooms is a bit slow and that can affect those wishing to work. All in all an excellent place to stay.

Stayed here in spring 2013
Pros: Convenient location / individualistic bungalows / decent restaurants / nice spa / good beds
Cons: Aeroplane noise / hit-and-miss service / overpriced spa / have to walk through heat to get to restaurants and main lobby / check in took an hour / did I mention aeroplane noise ?

Quiet dignity, ageless calm, a transformational experience through time…
Nothing was lacking. There was personal attention to details in the experience from the same person who greeted us in the lobby to the comfort of our room. We felt like the most important people at the hotel. Our attending staff person was most gracious and presented me with a small gift upon leaving. The spa while quite modern used color, sound and proportion of space that was transformation in to a different time. Cool water features caress the walkways with many native plant materials. Romantic dining and cool evening walks on the hotel grounds. Beach cabanas are available so while outside the sun is not so intense. Nice walk to the market, and the museum is en route via the water front.

I stayed at the Sharq and the hotel grounds are beautiful. The room was lovely, comfy kingsize bed. Waterfall shower. Delicious food at the Iranian restro. Beautiful pool and view of the sea.
BUT, the traffic was horrible when I was leaving the hotel for the Airport. I left at 7am for a 9:20am flight. The hotel is literally 5 minutes away from the airport, but with the traffic at gridlock, it took me 45 minutes to finally arrive. I was a nervous wreck by the time I actually arrived.
If you have a later flight than 9am, stay at the Sharq. It is a truly lovely hotel...... it is just in a bad location.

Recently we hosted two events at Sharq Village in the Al Dasha ballroom and the hotel personnel was helpful in every possible way starting with advices and support on the conference room layout and dinner arrangements and continuing with sound and video systems, samples display, guest welcome, ... truly a five star experience.
One small disadvantage is the noisy location next to the airport but this is not a problem when inside the hotel.
