“Always great Peking duck”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 27, 2013

Finally a decent Chinese restaurant in Doha. We have been to Doha for visits over the last 5 years and I have finally found a restaurant comparable to what I get in Hong Kong. We got the qgrabs coupon for Peking duck so that made it all the more worth it.
Food is of high quality. Chef is from Hong Kong. Fantastic service from the team. The downside of course is the ban of alcohol currently at The Pearl. If you are fed up of greasy, crappy, westernised Chinese food, drive down to Tse Yang. Yes, on the pricier side - around QAR300/head.

“The best Crispy Peking Duck we had outside of Beijing !”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 13, 2013

We fancied some Chinese food for dinner and went to Tse Yang. Awhile ago a couple of people we know have dined in the restaurant before and their feedback was very positive, actually they raved about it. We didn't ask what they had but all they said was that we should definitely go there. So we did. The restaurant is in the Pearl near the Rolls Royce, Maserati and Ferrari car show room. There is a free visitors covered car park on the right just before you pass the main roundabout ( Marina 5) it is located on the first floor accessible by a lift/ elevator or staircase. You will see Guy Savoy and Megu -Japanese restaurant signs on the left. We didn't have any reservations. It was about 8PM. The entrance is dramatic , with red glowing mirrors. You would think you are in Shanghai or Beijing. It was empty . The menu was interesting and the Crispy Peking duck caught our eye. It was QR298 for a whole duck. We haven't had crispy duck here in Qatar . We decided to order just that and see how we feel afterwards if we'd like to order some more food. They gave us a bowl of toasted cashew nuts while we wait for our food. It didn't take long. The cooked duck arrived on a serving plate on a wheeled trolley with the warm pancakes in the bamboo steamer, the sliced spring onions and hoisin sauce on separate dishes. ( we don't like cucumber so we told them not to include it). The waiter skilfully carved all the crispy skin / top layer and the duck with all the remaining meat was taken back to the kitchen by another waiter to be cooked in Black pepper sauce and vegetables .We thought we will have to wrap the crispy duck pancakes by ourselves .. Instead, the waiter did it for us, dipping the meat first in the hoisin sauce before wrapping it in the pancake with spring onions. This is the proper way to serve it. So we tucked in to the most delicious and succulent crispy duck pancake . He made about 20 pancakes and we had 8 each, we would have finished all of it but we have to leave some room for the next course. If we'd have wrapped the duck the meat would have turned cold but with the waiter doing the work for us we enjoyed eating it while it's still warm. We also had a separate dish with three different dipping sauce, soy sauce, venigar with fresh chili and a spicy sauce. The duck meat that was cooked in pepper sauce and mixed with vegetables was equally delicious and succulent. It was served after we had enough of the pancakes. it arrived piping hot.We ate it with plain white rice.We struggled to clean the serving plate because the portion was more than enough for the two of us. They offered if we's like to take away the left overs, we were tempted but said no. Reheated food wouldn't taste the same. Next time we'll try their dim sum selection and other dishes. Just before we left there were a few couples who came in. It didn't really bother us that it was not busy, in fact it was good because the service is attentive , and besides most of the restaurants in The Pearl are all struggling to attract customers because of the alcohol ban. We like good food and good service so with or without alcohol it doesn't really bother us. Glad we went and it won't be long til we're back again.
