“Fantastic!”
Reviewed December 8, 2012

This hotel is located in the Souq Waqif, it is tacked away in a little alley, very quiet and peaceful. It a luxurious boutique hotel with Arabic touches and a lot of attention to details. The staff is very attentive, great customer service, free car park and great food. I also would like to add that the bed is very comfortable and the soft towels that smell beautiful.

I spend an average of 120 nights per year in hotel rooms, crossing Europe, North America and Asia on business trips. I never ever felt at home apart from this little hotel in Suq Waquif.
Recently opened, it only hosts 14 rooms and to me it really reflects the quintessence of what I understand under the definition of “Boutique Hotel”.
It is located in a quiet alley at the rim of the Suq, giving you the chance to either relax surrounded by silence or to dive into Doha’s social life and events just by crossing the street to reach the Suq’s main road.
Check-in procedures are carried out quickly and efficiently as you sip some fresh juice and dig into a bowl of sweet dried fruits. A staff member will escort you to your room while illustrating the features of the hotel. The whole organization is committed to show great attention to the customers and the imperative is to make you feel comfortable and provide you with outstanding services.
The rooms are spacious and extremely nice, as the rest of the facility; luxurious, to say the least, in a typical Arabian style which makes it all very shiny without being obnoxious; the smallest detail has been carefully thought of: like the chandeliers with a 12meters stem, drapes three-floors high, vases and decoration which are laid down to make this hotel look like a little private palace. Fresh flower compositions are everywhere, including any room, where orchids (mainly white Phalaenopsis) and white roses are carefully placed over the desk and the night table (along with a selection of fresh and dried fruit and water, all complementary).
The hotel has a beautiful business center on the first floor and offers free wi-fi connection in the rooms. It does not have a swimming pool and a spa but it leverages from the synergies with the other hotels of the Suq Waqif chain it belongs to; therefore a swimming pool and a spa are available at “Al Miraq”, just a seven minute walk across the Suq; swimming pool is free of charge for guests at the Musheireb.
Apart from being cozy and intimate, what really makes this hotel stand out from the others is the location; being at the very beginning of the block it is the only hotel of this chain to be waterfront and some of the rooms have a magnificent view of the Corniche and of Doha’s skyline. It is also within walking distance from the Museum of Islamic Art, which is something you should not miss!
Whether you are on a business trip or on vacation, this is the place you might want to come back to after a hard day at work or a hard day touring around Doha, dodging the heat and the traffic. Stunning!

Firstly, the location next to the souq is great, but it is difficult, if not impossible to get a taxi as they cannot come close to the hotel and they are not to be found in peak times out on the streets.
The room was nice enough, but the lack of a window makes spending time in the room rather depressing.
Breakfast was not available as the restaurant was being renovated. Strangely though, it was open in the evening. There were plenty of breakfast options in the souq, but they were a very hot walk away. This is not a B&B, at least at the moment.
A little more attention to detail is required, especially at the price; the toothbrush holder was dirty, only one bath towel was provided as the rest were 'in the dryer', the supply of tea bags was inadequate and not replenished, the door key card didn't work, there was no sign of the 'fresh fruit all day' and other rooms kept calling through to our room instead of reception, including a call at 3am.
HSW will have to work hard to retain its number 1 position.

Room Tip: The Junior Suite has a small sitting room that would be a good location for an extra bed, but as the...

Always wanted to stay at the Hotel Souq Waqif and finally got the chance. Fantastic location, espcially if you are there to take photos as it is in the souq, on the corniche and everywhere is walkable. Having said that this is just as well as the facilities for parking a rental are not at all good and is probably better not to and just use a taxi if you need.
Service was friendly, prompt and helpful. Room comfortable and shower absolutely devine.
Got some amazing shots of the traditional dancing and the souq abuzz with life but also because was staying there got some fantastic reflective shots of the deserted souq in the early morning light and shadows.

Room Tip: have a look at the map and check which way you want to be facing either back over the souq or out ov...

Doha is succombing to the Dubai-disease, and, unlike in Oman, it's hard to find much that reminds you where you are. The main exception to this sad state of architectural affairs is the Hotel Souq Waqif. On the edge of the bazaar of the same name, its architecture echoes that of several large buildings within the souq. Perhaps best of all, the hotel is within walking distance of the Museum of Islamic Art, surely one of the great museums of the world. Our room was spacious, with a large bathroom, and decorated in a local style that wasn't too over-the-top. Staff are excellent, thoughtful and extremely helpful. The seafood restaurant offered a wide menu, from Qatari dishes to international recipes. We ate there for several meals, including one with guests, and were never disappointed. The breakfast, included in the room price, was both varied and generous. We would heartedly recommend this hotel over the other, international ones which we visited for tea or lunch while in Doha. Why stay in a as-seen-all-over-the-world highrise when you can stay in a traditional but modern hotel on the edge of the souk?

Room Tip: We enjoyed being on the souq-side of the hotel, where we could watch the Qataris come and go, buying...

I chose the Hotel Souq Waqif for my 2-night stopover in Doha based on TripAdvisor reviews, because I wanted a hotel in walking distance to the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) and, always being fascinated by souqs, to Souq Waqif. Although the hotel is a bit pricey, particularly if you are travelling on your own, I don't think I could have made a better choice. Arriving rather early (10 am) my room was not yet ready, but since the MIA opened at 10.30 and was only a 10-minute walk away that was not a problem. When I returned to the hotel a few hours later I found that I had been upgraded to a suite. This suite consisted of a small lounge and a large bedroom each with their own en-suite. Both rooms very attractively furnished and had a flat-screen TV which looked a bit out of place in its Arabian-touch surroundings. The bathrooms had a walk-in shower with two shower heads dispensing a strong flow of hot water. There were bathroom amenities aplenty. The lounge contained a beautiful tea set, but only as a decoration. There were no tea & coffee-making facilities which was the only drawback as far as I was concerned. However, since the hotel was on the edge of Souq Waqif there were lots of coffee shops and restaurants to be found in the tourist part of the souq, and it was probably much more interesting sipping your tea or coffee at an outdoor table people-watching than inside your room. From the hotel's rooftop you had a great view of the ever-expanding Doha skyline. This view, however, might possibly be doomed, as there was a lot of building activity going on across the road from the hotel. I found the hotel staff polite and always ready to smile, and I was very happy to discover that internet access was available and free. Doha makes for an interesting stop-over for travellers wanting to experience a new destination, and the Hotel Souq Waqif adds to the feeling of being in a different world.
