The Ritz Carlton in Doha styles itself as a top, 5* luxury hotel so it is against this standard that it has to be judged. It has its good points. The staff are friendly. My room (and bed) were very comfortable (though on two nights noise from a neighbouring room made sleep difficult) . And the food was generally of a high standard. But service during my stay was just too inconsistent. I asked for a morning newspaper each day but it arrived less than 50% of the time. The breakfast buffet was fine when quiet but collapsed when the hotel was full. On one day the orange juice ran out. On another the queue for eggs was particularly long. One morning I had to ask twice for a jug of cold milk only to see it taken from my table before I had been able to add it to my tea. At meals the bill either arrived before you had even started eating or not at all. The (nice) pool area also got very busy at weekends. Unfortunately there is no beach. With some tightening up, the Ritz could be genuinely first class. But it isn't at the moment.
