“Good hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 22, 2013

At the beginning of a trip around the Middle East we stayed for three nights at the Mövenpick Doha. I contacted the hotel in advance to reserve an airport pickup through e-mail and got a reply with a decent price. Upon arrival in Doha we noticed our names on a screen in the arrivals hall and was immediately escorted by our driver to a shiny new Lexus that took us to the hotel. Very convenient as we were arriving late. Check in was a breeze and we got upgraded to a larger room with views over Doha Bay and the skyline.

The room itself was very nice. A very comfortable bed, a Samsung flatscreen tv with 40 channels, free wifi, bathroom with tub and spacious enough for the two of us. They also provided two bottles of free water each day. Location-wise the hotel is situatied conveniently for the airport, the fantastic (free admittance) Museum of Islamic Art (10 mins' walk, partly through a construction site during our visit) and Souq Waqif which are two of the sights in Doha. Doha is not a great city to walk in, but we managed. You also reach the Corniche in about 5 minutes walk from the Mövenpick along which you can walk all the way to Doha's West Bay (where all the scyscrapers are), but that is about 6-7 kilometers one way.

We had breakfast included in our rate and thought it was okay. Nothing special but alright with a few Indian, Arabic and western dishes provided. They also had an egg chef. Plus for the tasty freshly squeezed orange juice. One night we tried the restaurant in the hotel which I found quite boring. Nearly no one there and prices were very high. We tried the Lebanese mixed grill and while okay taste-wise it just wasn't worth the hefty price tag. The bar is not very exciting either with steep prices even for a draft beer, but I guess that might be the situation in all of Qatar.

The pool area is okay with a swimming pool and a jacuzzi. It's not the prettiest place though and there was a quite limited amount of sun loungers, even though we got one everytime we went to the pool. Staff at the hotel were friendly enough, and one of my favourite things about the hotel was the turn down service where they left you a small bar of Toblerone chocolate on your pillow. Nice touch.

To summarize: nice modern hotel, liked the free wifi, the room. Not so impressed by pool area, food and public areas.

The staff at the Movenpick couldn't be more helpful, and so very welcoming, the standard of food in the restaurant was excellent with plenty of choice and my room was very comfortable and spacious. There is a safe in the room - no charge. Internet is available in the rooms - no charge. The only downside is the swimming pool. It is outdoor - bonus, but It's small and only in the sun until midday, which is not a bad thing if you have children who want some pool fun safely out of the rays, but for the sunbathers it's an early start and in by lunchtime.

Just a 10 minute walk from the Museum of Islamic Art which is free to enter and a joy to see, then walk on for an further 10 minutes to the Souk Waqif to enjoy the local traders and restaurants. Great for people watching.

Room Tip: There is a live band performing in the bar on Friday nights, so for the early snoozers check your ro...

We stayed in a spacious double room with two comfortable beds. Breakfast was good. Nice and close to the airport, but make sure you tell the taxi driver it's the Movenpick Hotel (old one), not Movenpick towers. The hotel can also provide transport from/to the airport at reasonable price if you want.
We could hear the noise that started early in the morning from a nearby work on the street, but the hotel provided earplugs!
Don`t take the taxis that are always in front of the hotel to go to the market or to other places in town because the price will be very high. Prefer the blue ones that you can easily take on the streets.
It stays not very far from the beautiful Museum of Islamic Art, to the gold souk street and also to the Souq Waqif (there is another gold souq there, more sophisticated) if you like walking.
The Movenpick ice cream that you can have in the lobby café was disappointing.
After the check-out, they kept our luggage for a few hours and let us to use the spa, what was nice.

upon arrival you are greeted by friendly staff and escorted with your bags to you room, the room was very spacious with a comfortable bed, stocked mini-bar,the usual tea,coffee,water..there is a business centre which i used to print off some emails, and their is free wi-fi throughout the hotel.
i did not use the jazz bar but ate nearly every day in the restaurant, there are lots of themed nights and the food is michelin star quality.
The staff organised any transport i required and helped with any queries i had about the local facilities, the service in the restaurant and all parts of the hotel was fantastic,my only issue was the location of my room, there is a mosque at the front left hand side of the hotel, and i was woken most mornings around 4 am by the call for prayer,so it may be advisable to get a room at the back of the hotel...apart from this small inconvenience my stay was very pleasant.

Room Tip: get a room at the back of the hotel...

This hotel was very convenient for me working in an office across the road. The hotel is slightly older but I was really impressed with the breakfast and food in general. Good, cheap and cheerful business hotel. Centrally located.

I stayed in a double room which had two big comfortable beds. The room was reasonable with a tv with sufficient English channels. Breakfast was good. Passage ways stank of cigarette smoke. Beers in the pub were way over priced in comparison to other hotel bars.
Nice and close to the airport, but make sure you tell the taxi driver it's the Movenpick Hotel (old one), not Movenpick towers.

Staffs were friendly and helpful, food was nice and the lunch buffet in particular was fantastic. Rooms are clean and spacious but a little noisy with airport being so nearby however, the hotel provides earplugs! They can improve on the double glazing though and I believe this would make the hotel an ideal place to stay for my next business trip to Doha.

Room Tip: Do use the provided earplugs otherwise noise from planes at nearby airport will wake you up if you a...
